Wow, major photo file, glad I have cable.

If I may give you some things to consider (from what I've seen and read):

How are you going to get those CL feeds off to clean them without dumping the water on the floor? I assume I just cant make it out by the pics but hopefully you have a way to do this.

You WILL get buildup on the loc-line. If you don't have microbubbles when it's new, you will probably encounter them later - but only if you adjust the flow pattern by moving the loc-line. I said if but we all know I should have said WHEN.

I wouldn't recommend putting anything on your BB starboard/cutting board unless you do the sand/epoxy thing without starboard. After 1 yr being set up BB and 6 months after stopping to try to keep coraline at bay, I had to clean my bottom. It wasn't fun in 30" deep tank. Some places had built up over 1/4" and some maybe 1/2". This was a snowball effect, the more clumps of coraline the less efficient my spraybar was and the more detritus and coraline would build up.

And a combo-last thing was that you didn't mention a spray bar for the bottom of the tank (you indicated you wanted BB). You want/need a spray bar since the whole idea with BB is suspend it and skim it. The other thing is you may not have enough pump/flow. Maybe you could separate your CL to 1 spray bar and 1 CL run by completely separate pumps about the size of your current one.

Added live rock to start the cycle last friday, then added more this friday and aquascaped.

The rock is about 130lbs combo of Lalo (30lbs); Tonga Shelf (36lbs. and AWESOME to aquascape with!); Tonga Branch (24lbs); Carribean (15lbs); and Fiji (about 25lbs).

The Carribean and Fiji are from my established tank, the rest from Drs. Foster and Smith.

I really liked aquascaping with the tonga shelf, large plates that are very dense.

I'm sure it will change again, but that's it for aquascaping for now. It took hours to cut small pieces of plastic coathanger and drill holes in the rock.


I also added some CC substrate, after all the reading about BB or epoxy I just couldn't do it. There is about 20lbs of Caribsea Curshed Coral in there, about 1/2 to 3/4" max, I will just have to siphon it often.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but all of the plumbing is modular, there are too many unions and ball valves on there, the whole closed loop assemblies can be removed without any tools. I can actually take all of the pipes off, with the exception of the first drain segment which is about 9" long from the drain hole to the union/bv, and remove them from the tank/stand to clean.

I read this also, but was willing to risk it for the flexibility of the Loc-Line. I'm still growing into liking different corals, so my flow requirements will change and it should be easy to change the flow.

And I decided against BB. I love the concept, but was on the fence as far as if I liked the looks of it or not. Since my wife and son voted against it, I ended up with CC.


I only have a few things left to do:
1) Auto top-off - have all the components, but waiting on #2
2) Calcium reactor. Waiting on it to arrive to figure out where to put it, how to use it, and how to hook it up.
3) Chiller - chiller is on my current tank, and I won't be able to move it until I transfer livestock.
4) refugium - waiting on all above.

Hopefully 2 more weeks all will be finished.

Only problem is that there is no room for corals with that aquascaping. I'll give you some big lumpy rocks for that crapy ole shelf roock. You can do so much more with it.lol

Looks great. I have a few pieces of shelf and they add so much versatility in terms of coral placement. Can't wait to see it loaded up. Are you filling it from an older existing system (corals).

I will transplant some from my current tank, but most will be new aqusitions (as a check to see of my wife can see me typing this)

I'm going to try some SPS up high and some LPS a little lower.
Fish are going to be 2-3 smaller tangs only, I think.

I did go ahead and set up the auto top-off system temporarily this afternoon. Seems to work fine. I wanted to have enough reserve to last a week or more to make vacations easier.

Crushed Coral, get ready for algae nightmares. If you can remove it I HIGHLY suggest you do. speak from experience. It just doesn't work for reef tanks
