My goni just dropped a little baby goni a couple days ago. I'll get a pic of it tomorrow the lights just turned off but I thought I would share. It was also closed up the other day and I noticed two or three little balls forming on the top that look like little babies also.
I checked again a few minutes ago and I saw a couple little bumps on the skeleton where a bunch of tiny polyps are starting to grow different from the rest of the colony so I assume they are little babies too.
Put the baby in a small cup or bowl. That will keep it from getting blown away by current or fish, if you have any in the tank. Keep it upright for a couple weeks and then you should be able to set it onto a rock after it forms a base.. I have a Stoksie that propogated and so far I have seen growth from the youngster.
I just stared using reef-Roids and the gonis seem to like it. They are expanding better and have gained a lot of color in the last month. Not to mention my pod population is a lot better since i stared using it.
Just remember to keep it in a place where you can keep an eye on it and wait till it forms a base to set on. Then glue it to a rock.
Congrats and keep me informed on how it does.
I have glued them to a rock and have also left them "free-living" on the sand in little plastic baby pens. The ones that are free-living in the pens have done much better, grown faster, extended better, and have been much less finicky.
mine is in a spot now where its not moving around or getting much flow, it's right near a fox coral, and it seems to be doing well everyday it opening up a little more so i guess i'll leave it for now and play it by ear as to when to glue it down to a rock.
Many years ago (I was still in HS) I did a Bio report on my reef and a baby goni I had in my 125g... Sadly now in my 75g (new setup after being out for a few years) the goni I got new for the LFS lasted about 9 months... Was doing dandy as was every thing else, it just went closed one day, and more or less never came back around.
I was feeding DTs, live Pods (booster)... Was going to try Reef-Roids for my other stuff, for the sake of it.
