LOL, pretty much. ;)

What I see is it is all about money with the government.

Migratory Bird Depredation/Homeowner Permit : CFR 21 $50

It looks like all I have to do is send an application and $50 to Atlanta and they will give me a permit to take him out. It is some what amusing that they specify you must use a shotgun with #10 shot for the kill.

I guess anything can be bought for the right price. Pretty sad.

I hope it just goes away.

:eek2: :eek2: That is sad. Atlanta! I guess it just shows the "great" bureaucracy at work....pathetic.
Stay classy! :)

Hah, I was going to suggest the depredation clause but I see you spotted it yourself. Well, that is one option! I somehow missed that when glancing at the law the first time. Who knew? If they're going to grant it to anyone, you ought to get one since it's a business the heron is impacting.

I wonder if the shotgun specification is so the remains are pretty shredded. The impetus of the bill in the first place was to keep people from killing birds for feathers which were used as decoration. #10 shot shouldn't leave you with much to sell if you were so inclined ;)

Look into a product called the "scarecrow" - I have put many in on koi ponds - it is basically a motion sensored sprinkler that sprays water in a rain bird pattern. It has worked for me in the past for raccoons, herons and egrets - you may need to put a few up but they are cheap and easy to install.
