My Haddoni Chooses Rock

Tangdango

I put my haddoni in my 28 gal a week ago. I put him on the sand and he moved over to the side of a live rock. why would a haddon's do this? Is there something wrong with it? wanna get this thing to stay put somewhere so I can place a few corals. Also he use to be a tan- brown color, now it's gotten lighter (almost an off-white) and translucent. Nutrients deficiency?

I have a Reef Sun 50/50 bulb and a 15w actinic bulb. I know that's geared more for corals but I had to put him in there( my 50 gal w/ 10,000 K light had some serious problems. Will it die with the lights I have, or do I have a little time to get other tank going?

And still waiting for suggestions as to the rock vs sand deal. I know they supposed to be in sand, what should I do. Can't really stick em to the glass on the bottom: tacticle issue; the sand keeps caving in. Can't they burrow in there theirselves?

Well you may have a light problem. I had that 50/50 bulb for my mangroves and they never grew so I moved to Leds. The Haddoni will move around. It does what it wants.

Are you sure its a haddoni?

To me it looks sort of likes like a bleached gig. The blue foot and the tentacle do it for me. I don't see any verrucae though ?

I think this could be a gigantea as well. The folds in the disc as well as the pattern of the tentacles are indicators of a gig. However, this one could still be a haddoni since I have seen a few attach to rocks, especially when they're not getting enough light.

Where did you get that nem tangdango ? In otherwords what stupid moron of a shop owner sold you a bleached out carpet anemone saying it would do fine under your lights

It's a haddoni and needs more light. They will attach to rocks when they are stressed. Healthy haddonis have the energy reserves to bury their foot but weak ones don't and thus find the easiest thing to cling to.

Either way weather it be gig or haddoni it needs more light that should be your first thing right now

Got it at Petco. It was actually tagged as a gig. it use to be tan, now it looks bleached. No one told me the 50/50 would work. I was forced to put him in that tank with the 50/50 temporarily. Figured it'd be alright for a while under those lights til I got other tank fixed. Thx 4 your help.

When you say 50/50, I assume you are talking about a single bulb of fluorescent lighting. This is often sold to beginners as "what you need to grow corals and anemones." The bulbs are marketed as 50% natural daylight spectrum and 50% actinic light. It's simply a marketing ploy to sell most hobbiests an overpriced bulb. The bottom line is you are going to need to upgrade your lighting to keep any of the anemones that naturally host clownfish. By upgrade, I mean add too of replace your current fixture. Simply put, you are not producing enough lumens to keep the zooxanthellae inside the anemone to stay alive and photosynthesize, which feeds the anemone.
