My Haddoni is looking puny:(

Hello everyone, I need a little help. I have had a Haddoni in my tank for about a month and he started looking a little puny today. Not at all bad. But just not totally normal and happy. When I first got him, I had to take him out of my friends tank. It wasn't easy and I think he got injured in the process. He's all healed up now, although the side that was injured doesn't open up like the side that wasn't injured.

Anyways... I feed him almost everyday with either: phytoplankton, zooplankton, or microvert. My salinity is about 1.024-1.025. I have no ammonia or nitrites. My nitates are between 20 and 40(pretty bad I know). I have metal Hallide lights. And two clowns that host the anemone.

Are the nitrates just taking their tole? Any suggestions? Thankx for the help!!!

Any chance of getting a picture of it?

When it was damaged, was it its foot or just the oral disc?

What lights do you have (( watts, and color temp )) and what size tank? What lights was it under?

Haddonis (( and other anemones )) will shrink down from time to time as they expel the internal water -- call it an internal water change if you will. So, this could be something normal, or the beginning of some issues. Is its mouth tightly closed?

I personally would cut back on those feedings, IMO there is no reason to be feeding it everyday, and I am sure that it is causing your 'trates issues. Depending on the size of the Haddoni I would go with mysis(d) or krill, and feed it every 3 weeks -- at most.

Thakx for the help, I'll get you a pic tomorrow.

When it was damaged it was just the oral disc, the foot was fine.

I'm pretty sure my lights are 250 watts. I have a 72 gallon bow front. I think it was under the white lights when it started to not look so good. It's mouth isn't tightly closed but it doesnt' look lose either. It pretty much looks like normal.

I would be feeding Silversides and / or Krill not those other things you are feeding. I'm sure that is contributing to your Nitrates also. Oh and anemone's don't eat Phyto anyways. 1 day of looking bad wouldn't get a second thought from me if that makes you feel any better :)

I was going to sen a pic but he's already looking better this morning. I know that this sounds stupid but i've never fed my nem solid food so... how do I do it? Do I just put it up to his mouth and he'll eat it? I have freezedried krill. Will that work? And how do I buy silversides; live, freezedried, frozen? And should I feed him the whole silverside or just half? IMO he's pretty big, about the size of a dessert plate or teacup saucer. Thankyou sooooo much for your help guys, as you can tell....I need it. ;)

I am personally not a fan of silversides --- had a bad incident with them years ago and stopped using them. I know I am not the only one that has had an issue with them. I just use frozen (( thawed )) krill. As for how to feed them, I just place them in the oral disc and the Haddoni does the rest --- takes just a few seconds for them to pull them to pull them into their mouth.

I wouldn't use freeze dried krill. Get regular frozed. Them and the silversides are in the frozen foods section at a LFS. For silversides its probably best to cut them in half. I feed krill along with silversides Toddrex. I think there would be more nutrition in Silversides.
