My Harlequin Shrimps

So I ordered 2 Harlequin shrimp a couple of weeks ago and only one came in. When I pulled the bag out he was on his back and not moving. I thought he was dead. I sat him aside and got the rest of the fish out and what not. After I was done I picked up the bag and flicked it a couple of times. What do you know he starts kicking his legs and was able to flip over. Well he made it. He loves asterinas. So I ordered one for thursday. This one came in fine. I got it into the tank and it also has been doing good. They finally found each other last night. I am so happy. Now they wont leave each others side. I have 2 Serpant stars and they dont bother them. They walk right over them. They are both eating well, I have 100's of little stars for them to eat. Heres a picture of them. This is my second time around with these shrimp. I used to have one until I went on vacation and came back to a tank with almost 4 gallons of evaporation. Salinity was around 1.030, I think that killed him. Anyway Im glad I finally got some again.

Yeah I really like them. When I had my first one it didnt bother my Serpent either. I dont know they must not look very good(in the shrimps eyes). Its weird they will be right next to each other in the tank. Anyone else with Harlequins on the boards?

Canon Powershot SD400 Its only a $200 camera BUT it looks like he knows how to use the manual settings.

What you feeding them
Mine like spotted linkia and I have come up witha good way of proping them let the harlequins take offa leg and then remove it throwit in a sump or fuge and it will grow a net star from the leg.
I have not tried cutting the legs but I guess it would work as well.
in a healthy system you can remove four of the five legs and give the rest to the shrimps
Itakes about 2 months to get to this stage which is the only drawback.
but you could do it on a bigger scale to geta constant supply have not tried it with blues but guess it would work.

Ive got a pair in the 180.One a bit larger than the other.A day after I got them,they went to opposite sides of the tank.Occasionally,they'll meet up in the center late before the lights go out.Feed them mostly from the sump stars.Have you ever seen one hunt them down off the side of the glass?Awesome!.John

Do they pester/eat the mini brittle stars ? (the 1" sized ones).

As the original poster said in his first post, yes they eat them

They are both eating well, I have 100's of little stars for them to eat

I was asking more for clarification if he was referring to the mini-brittle stars or the asterinas, since both could be referred to as "little stars" (neither grow that big).

I feed mine CC stars. One star will last about 2-3 weeks. I don't asterinas in my tank, never have.

Dubbin (aka Sherlock Holmes ) is correct about the camera. And that pic was taken through the glass....you should see my shots using the underwater housing

They are eating asterinas right now. I have some Choc Chips waiting in the wing for them if the asterinas get low in numbers. I dont think they would go after the mini brittle stars. Mine dont go after my serpents.

Mine are OK with cleaners and peppermints.
