For all the money that we dump into this hobby....$15-20 for a safe heater is a small price to pay for not having to worry about "riding the lightening" when you go to feed you fish or fiddle in your sump.
I have been zapped in the past by 110, 220, and 440 (on the main line coming into a house). Each was increasingly more unpleasant than the last...and 440 will make you go numb as well as pull muscles. I now have a healthy respect for electricity as well as for GFI's.... contrary to what anyone tells you... human beings conduct electricity quite well when grounded. In our hobby we play with two very dangerous components on a daily basis.... electricity and water. Its a great hobby...but it definitely deserves some caution.
