My HUGE Branching Hammer Coral

I have some extremely large branching hammer anchor coral that I'm looking to trade or sell locally. I wanted to see how much they might be worth first since I have no idea and I don't want to get ripped off.

Here's some pics of them in my 46G bowfront. It's hard to tell, but the one at the top is larger than a basketball and is maybe 50 to 60 heads. It's gigantic. The other 3 are probably about 25 heads...still very big. I've had them for about 6 years and my clowns have accepted them as hosts. It's starting to overwhelm my tank. I've never seen hammer coral this big before.

Holy cow! They sell for about 10 a head around here but no idea on a monster like that.

If you frag it up you could make more.

Thanks guys. They look even nicer in person, but they've grown so large that my other coral aren't getting any light. You can see quite a few dead candy cane heads in these pics. Hammers love to sting their neighbors.

WoW! Beautiful Hammers!

WoW! Beautiful Hammers!

I bought mine for 5$ a head...But they were small compared to yours. I think mine was about 30$ cuz, 6 heads were stuck together...

They are very happy mate, you must be looking after them well.
I have a problem much like yours, this is my 6 foot tank. The hammers are on the right if you missed them lol. Im selling some off to make some room for something else.

Wow ABBS I love your tank! Don't sell them! The hammers complete the tank! :D

I can't wait for my Frog to get this big....
I bought my Frogspawn for 10 bucks a head...

you need to keep them, just get a BIGGER TANK!!! those are way too nice to bust up. come on, you know you've always wanted bigger :)

those things are gigantic! I would say keep the mother colonies and just frag off some branches to allow the light to get to the other coral. That way you keep the beauties as well as free up some money for some new stuff. Win Win situation.

I've been lucky enough to see Martin's tank in person, the hammers are huge, larger than a football.

In my LFS, a colony that size would retail for $200-250. Typically if it doesnt sell in a couple weeks, they break it up into smaller, cheaper pieces that sell quicker.

You would probably get half that in store credit. ($100ish)

My local LFS already has a hammer frag tank so they weren't all too interested in these. I'll probably just post them on craigslist and offer $8 per head. I'll keep the biggest one, but the others will need to be fragged down.

Definitely gorgeous looking! I've got 3.5 heads right now, and I'll probably run into a problem in the future with it being in a 12G right now... :P
Gotta love LFS guys saying whatever gets the sale whenever you ask them for recommendations. I'm hoping Mr. T (my hammer) hosts my clown, but this thread shows me that I'm going to need a bigger tank. I feel my wife cringing somewhere as I type ;)
