My Inverts Died

I went on vacation for two weeks. When I returned my Cleaner Shrimp and Hermit Crab had died. I ran all test and found nothing out of the ordinary. Then I left again for a long weekend and my Peppermint Shrimp died. Again, I cannot figure out why. Does anyone have any thoughts? I would like to replace them, but want to make sure it is safe.

SpGr = 1.025
KH = 10
pH = 8.3
Ammo = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = Was 40-20 now after WC 20
This was high because my automatic feeder feeds to much even on the lowest setting. Another water change should bring this back, but I did not think that this would kill them.
Temp = 80
I have a heater maintaining this so it is possable that the temperture went up. Could this kill them?

I just had the same problem. The friend watching the tank told me everything was croaking off. Turns out one of my heaters popped and electricuted the tank. I'm in recovery now but I lost all my inverts too. Fish were fine but acting wierd. I still have a few blue legs too but they move slowly now. I think I'll have a coral recover but not sure.

I say check your heater for cracks.

As noted, check for any stray voltage.

Another thought is that inverts do not tolerate change well. ie when you purchase them, they must be acclimated very, very slowly if their bagged water is significantly different than the display tank. Was there some type of drastic water change, ie did a friend top off to much all on one day?

Lastly, I'm sure you've checked that it was not just the shrimp molts that you found.

My heater seems to be operating fine. I did bump my a/c up to 85 while I was gone. That was probably too much change for them. I never actually found their bodies. My live sand will devour a molt in only a couple of hours, so I rarely find them. My wife will find them sometimes in the morning, but she refuses to pull them out and they are gone before I come home that evening.

It seems I would be ok to replace them. I just need to be more careful with my temp swings. However, a temp drop does not seem to be as harmful. I mistakenly left my heater off for two days and my tank's temp dropped to 70 with no long term effects.

I had the same problem as dreed but it was a powerhead with a crack in the cord that had became embrittled it was a real shock when I stuck my hand in the tank

I had a problem with stray voltage too--after we found the problem--we then installed a ground probe--good insurance

I am considering a Pom Pom Crab. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience?

Thanks for the tip Capn. I am going to look for one of thoughts. Can it be plugged into a surge protector or does it need to go straight into the wall?
