my large pencil urchin is releasing this gooey white stuff

i got a large pencil urchin the other day. right now, it's releasing this white slimy stuff. alot of it. is it just going to the bathroom?

Would need to see a picture to be sure, but it actually sounds like it is spawning.

Ditto on the spawning. I had a tuxedo urchin spawn just after I got done moving. I believe its related to the change in water chemistry/temp/etc.

Unless you have 2 (( and they are opposite sex )) no babies.

I think you can get them to spawn with water temp. fluctuations or KCl works too, inject it. I know Martin Moe has done this, and works extensively with Diadema urchins.

does anyone know how hard or easy it'd be to raise urchin babies? like if i got a female one, would it be easy to produce more?

Hard. Martin Moe, has been trying to crack Diadema in a big numbers for a few years now. You would have to have seperate larval tanks, and algae cultures. It would be a good idea to invest in a microscope. It can be done, just gotta really want it.
