... beginning of the wek I went to my LFS to see if he had anything nice. In one of the tanks a small C. tominiensis was hiding in the far corner, gasping and looking really bad. An A. japonicus was really bullying him. The shop owner said there was no need to put him into a different tank, as he wasn't expecting him to make it until the evening.
I know... buying a fish bcause you feel sorry is bad, but I just couldn't leave the little guy in there. I paid 10,-€ for him and took him home.

His back fin was really torn. So I decided (after a friend recommended it) to cut the edges smooth and put him in some medication to clean the wound. He stayed in there for about two hours while I drip adjusted him to my tank water.
I put him into my smaller frag tank toghether with a small foxface I cared back to health, a rock mover wrasse and a blenny. They are in a 100g tank. The first few days I didn't see the tang. But now he's comming out more a swims around a lot. Just as soon as anything moves in the room he's gone. He's eating like a pig (flake food, frozen brine shrimps, fresh brine shrimps and mysis, algae sheets (green, purple, red and brown), wakame algae and banana. I dose vitamins daily and soak the food in garlic once a day. His fin is looking good. I can see no signs of an infection (as far as can check... can't go too close or he will hide. But luckily he's brown so any spots would show right off). Today I took some pics. Sorry for the crappy quality. Had to use a zoom lens. Ignore the Aiptasia... I've got loads of them and my peppermints are really slow eating them :lol2:

Lucky fish! Nothing wrong with a mission of mercy if you can take care of the fish long term.

good job...but don't be offended,i think you took a big big risk to cutting his fin edges...a fish already under severe stress should not be stressed out more like that way...i don't know what expert will say,but i believe cutting also carry bigger risk to increase infection...

all well that ends well...so a job well done...

Thanks... yes I'm planning to keep him longer. I always wanted a bristle tooth tang and was always looking for a Chevron tang. But this guy is just as pretty. As soon as his fin has regrown and he's a bit bigger he will move into my main tank.

I'm not offended. I wasn't sure about cutting the fin. The friend told me to smooth the wound so he won't catch it when swimming around the rocks. I felt sooo sorry for him, but he stayed quite calm.

I'm happy with him and he is beginning to win some confidence. He's even brave enough to push the foxface aside to reach the algae.

Today I fed Golden Lake brine shrimps again and he just went crazy... ate like mad :bounce3: No signs of any infections or stress.
