my Leather has a crack in the stalk...

I purchased a leather about a week ago. I noticed there is a crack about 3/8 inch wide starting to discolor in the stalk, possible moving damage. Anything I can do to treat this before it gets worse or am I hosed?

You might try an iodine bath and place it in an area with good flow. They are pretty hardy.
