my little giant pump

So this morning I woke up to my little giant pump that is on my lifereef skimmer making a loud humming noise. My wife informed me that it was making the same noise yesterday but not as loud.
anyone have any ideas on how to fix it, or should I prepare by buying a new one??

BTW I have oiled it with some rotary motor oil.

I had that happen to my iwaki the motor was just worn out and it was time for a new one. I now have it set aside as a back up.

Take it apart and see if the impellar is coated with calcium, that happens occasionally. If so soak it in vinegar for about 4 hours and is should be cleaned off.

I agree, clean it first but sisterlimonpot may be right, the pump may just be worn out. I'm having that problem right now with my skimmer beckett pump.

I did take it apart this evening and cleaned the impeller but there was no real build up. How long is this pump gonna last as I don't have a lot of money to spend right now on a new one?

Mine's still running but it could go at any time. I'd run it till it dies, it may give you enough time to gather the funds for a new one.

After mine started making that humming noise I kept it on the tank for about 6 months until I found a good deal on a replacement.

Mines been running like this for over two months now. It's always been a loud pump because it's driving two becketts.
