Emilio, I hope you are prepared for all the "advice" you are going to get for keeping a tang in a nano...apparently they need a lot of room...

Nice looking tank though!

Yes, I know that a tang needs a lot of space. In a year more or less I will setup a larger reef. For while the tang is very tiny. I think that in this year the nano is a very cool place to him. What do you think about this?

I've never kept a tang so I am not sure as to how that will work, I've just read a lot of posts where people have been flamed by the "tang police" so I thought that I would warn you. ;)

People told me that a tang grows very slowly. I hope so!!!

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking to put a true percula, a green crommie and a gramma loreto also.

How big is the tank?

You might need to watch the bioload to see if it will support four fish. At least that was the advice I got on for my stocking list; two clowns, a green clown goby, a yellow goby, and/or a purple/red fire fish.

Actually Tangs can grow very fast on the contrary. They are reccomended for a 55 gallon tank. Also the amount of food they require (because they are pigs) will cause a lot of nutrient problems in a tank that small. Hope everything turns out well!

I think that stocking list would be doable in that system, just be sure to do frequent water changes and keep a close eye on your water parameters; keep in mind that I am still learning too. :)

My setup is:

In the sump a over dimensionated skimmer (for aquariums of 300 L - 80 Gal) and a circulation of 600 L/h (160 Gal/h). The substrate is with 13 cm of Halimeda and 8Kg of "life rock" to bacteria colonization.

You have a tang in a 12 gal? Dude that fish will most likely just die of stress from being in such a small space, tangs NATURALLY need a lot of swimming room, doesn't matter how big the fish is. My advice is take him back and get ur Oc. and wait till you get a bigger tank for the tang. Another issue, yellow tangs are known to be very aggressive and territorial, I'd hate to see that tang with a clown fish in there in such a confined space.

IDIOT????

Sorry my friend. I'm just a beginner that believed in people.

I reported your ofense to moderator. I believe that this forum is a serious forum and wil nopt accept any offense!

In the first case a YT in a nano is possible
It seems you looked at 7 different sources and chose to follow the advice of the one that said what you wanted to hear. In the first case, they are absolutely wrong. They also call a 3-4" YT "large". A YT can reach up to about 8" and they can grow very quickly. A 20 will barely provide room for it to turn around in a year or so. First rule of thumb in this hobby: avoid the advice of people trying to make money off you. While there are some honest sellers out there, many of them will tell you anything to make a few dollars.

Tangs are known to swim very large distances. Without several feet to swim (most experts seem to recommend a bare minimum of 4'), your fish will likely become very stressed.

On top of that, tangs eat a lot and produce a lot of waste. I doubt a tank that small can handle the bio-load of a tang, especially with other fish. Sounds like a tank crash in the making to me...
