My Nano

Listen emilio you basically can do what ever you want with your tank there are many people who do similar things. However a Zebrasoma sp. of any type, yellow tang included, needs to have a large area to live. I'll put it like this: a dog can live in a 5 foot bye five foot cage and maybe could live for a long time like this however just because it is possible doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. Also it will inevitably lay in its own excriment from time to time. With this said just know that this is going to be possible but it borders on abuse. Again i am not trying to be rude i am just letting you know. The site that you have saying that a tang can live in a twenty gallon tank is of course a pet store who makes their living on the fact that they can convince people much like yourself who do not do enough research and prematurly buy a fish like this.

Just so you know a nano tank is for a small reef community maybe a few coral and a couple catalina gobies, get your self a harliquen shrimp if the mood strikes you but not a tang. My advice is to take you existing tank and turn it into a sump for you new tank.

Tks. Really I will follow the medium advice that is 55 Gal. I will buy this tank soon. I put this table to show that there is no agreement in the diverse opinions in the web.

We are here to learn, and i learned this caracteristic after buy the YT.

tks for your message

just so you know the 75 will take up as much room in your house and will make you much happier in the long run.

Listen there are some people here who have strong opinions and do not know how to express them but most people just want to help so dont get turned off keep asking question because you will get a decent answer and it is the only way we will all learn

:)

I will continue with the nano, but it will be a reef only nano. I will setup a 55 Gal reef for my YT and others fishes.

My doubt is: Could the YT stay here in the nano for a couple of months?

max101101 has been banned from Reef Central.

While I personally agree that a nano tank is too small for a Yellow Tang, let me make it clear that there are civil ways of stating one's opinion without making attacks. Max101101 was banned for making personal attacks even after a warning was issued.

Keep things civil and we can have a constructive discussion and maybe help others see that sometimes, there are fish that cannot be kept on certain tanks.

Carlos, I'm here in the forum just to learn, not to fight. I'm here to discuss arguments and opinions. I'm sorry for max101101. The discussion can be very diplomatic and the best ideas will automaticaly surge!

I'm convinced that the YT can't live in a nano when adult, but could a young little YT live during a little time?

When they are young, that is when they are developing. Could a puppy live in a small cage all his life, probably not. It would not develop correctly as the puppy needs space to run and play and be a puppy. Could a kid develop correctly if all he/she had was the space in a crib? Absolutely not.

I think that when the fish are young, that is when they are developing and the environment in which they live as young will dictate how hardy and healthy the fish will be as an adult.

I think that a tang, regardless of age and size, should not be kept in a nano tank. With tangs, it is not about the size of the fish but about the swimming range and how much swimming that type of fish needs and does in the wild.

JMHO,

Carlos

I see. It's like to put a bird in a litle cage (nano) or in a big cage (reef) or in a forest (ocean) !

I will setup the a larger reef soon.

Here is the deal Emilio some things cannot be provented. For example without knowing proper care of the fish in question you have bought it now it is in a tank to small for it. That much is over and there is no point in crying over spilled milk. Now the future is all we can change. So before you fish goes crazy (which it will and it will start charging the wall swimming into rock might even jump out of the tank looking for more room) you need to get it in a new tank. so you question is can the fish stay in the tank its in. Well yes it can but the longer it stays in there the crazier it will become. So just get a new tank up and running as quick as you can. That is your best bet maybe the fish will think it is still in the pet store untill you get your new tank together. Just remember your new tank will still have to cycle

Buena suerte con tu pescado

Just not too quick. It's better to research first, instead of having to spend even more to upgrade again. Read as much as you can about the hobby and try to determine exactly what you'll want in the future.
