I just recently put 20 pounds of live arganite sand into my tank and got the salinity to 1.02 exactly, the only thing is the temperature of my tank is constantly fluctuating between 80-82 degrees Farenheit. Does anyone know a much cheaper and simpler way of getting the temp down then buying the $150 chiller? Also any good products for cleaning my all glass tank? Help me!! Thank you!

To cool, add another fan. 80-82ºF should be fine though. That's what temperature I keep my tank at. I would also recommend that you raise your Specific Gravity to at least 1.023 if not 1.025-1.026

Replacing the stock pump will help.

I now only use the stock pump to circulate my freshly made salt water. If I let it run overnight in a 5 gallon bucket the pump alone raises the water temp from 75F to 80F.

In the tank I use 1 maxijet 1200 but sometimes wish I used 2 maxijet 900s to get variable flow.

To get some better air flow I took off the cover of the second "empty" fan slot. I then added a vantec stealth fan blowing out. I think this works to get fresh air in and hot air out.

Doing these two things has my temp running 78 no lights and 80 with lights in a house with AC set at 72F.

IMO as long as you stayat 82 you should be fine.

you also may want to consider what region of habitat your looking to have. ie; hawaian, figi, australian reef, bahama region. check the local "median" temp range. some tropicals like 75-79. while others like 79-82 and so on... research your live stock selection.

I run mine without a heater, and it is consistantly around 80-82 during the day, and no lower than 78 at night. I still put a heater in the back, just in case it drops below 76.
