My new 240 RR. Ya baby!

I finally get to post in this forum.:D I just ordered a 240 RR custom glass aquarium from glasscages.com and I'm concerned of my choices. I ordered a 72 x 30 x 25. (1) overflow on (1) end only for 3 sided view. (1) 1.5" drain and (2) 1" returns in the overflow. Also I wanted a closed loop added, so I told them to place them as follows: (1) 1" return at base of overflow center of bottom, (1) 1" at the other end of the tank also center of bottom, and (1) 1" for the drain middle of the tank also center of the bottom glass. I'm looking for ideas before they cut the glass so any comments are welcome.:)

1.5" drain for closed loop with 4x 1" returns

make sure you tell them ...you want the "after bulkhead fitting" size of hole to be that 1.5" or 1"

Actually the 1.5" drain is in the overflow with the (2) 1" returns. The closed loop will be the (3) 1" bulkheads outside the overflow area. All sizes are that of the schedule 80 bulkheads. I will call them monday just to be sure I'm getting what I want. Thanks for the advise. I'm hopeing someone has done this type of setup and had an opion or idea, pro or con to this type setup. The closed loop will have a mag 12 with a squid. In from the middle and out through the ends. The end 1" bulkheads will be split into 2 flex type pipes to go to the corners. I will run the closed loop pump only while the lights are on. The main return I was thinking of using each of the 1" return bulkhead for either end of the tank also using a wave type effect. Thanks again

I would look into having a total of 5 holes drilled for the cl one for the intake and 4 for the returns. this way you can use an Ocean Motion 4 way. I think you will be happy with this set up. You can look at their web sight for ideas. as well as talking to Paul. they are great to work with. Good luck

I agree...a 2" schedule 80 bulkhead for closed loop drain and 4 returns with OM4way on a Sequence Dart pump. I'm using this setup twice on my GC 390 gallon. I had no problem getting exactly what I wanted from GC on my 390 and I bought all of my bulkheads from them also. They have great schedule 80 bulkheads.

Who is GC? I'd like to check them out. I'm sure I'll be needing a few more things I'm not even thinking about yet.

How should I run the closed loop? Always on or only when lights are on?

Also what type of sand is everyone using. I went to Home Depot and looked at their playsand, it looked pretty good. I'm using a 100g rubbermaid tub for a sump and I was thinging of setting it up with a deep sandbed around 7". I'm thinking no more than 3" in the display tank.

The way I look at, the ocean doesn't quit moving at night, so I don't think mine will. But I've never asked the question, so I'm interested myself. As for the sump and sand, depends on what else is going on in the sump.

Well I've been thinking about that myself and I'm sure I will end up with a few things in there as welll LR, maybe fuge etc... I currently have a 34g fuge.

I called GC today and made the change on the closed loop to 5 holes. Now where can I find a OM 4way cheap?

No squid

No squid

I am glad you changed your mind about using the squid, not a high tech piece of equipment, you will be much happier with the four way. They are always selling them in the used section of reefcentral, always a good deal or two, there.

I am going to follow this thread, because I just called them and quoted a 250, 60 x 36 x 25 and they gave me the best price so far and are willing to do whatever you ask. That is what I like. Good luck on the tank.

Thanks for the info on the used OM 4way, I'll keep my eyes on that.
I'm glad I changed my mind as well. I was also thinking about using a few of the OM Revolutions along the top of the tank for the return.
I'm currently taking down my present tank making way for the new. I'm excited and dreading this swapout. I'm setting it up in my family room, it's on the lower level, 9 steps down and a sharp left. Yikes!

Starting build for tank stand tomorrow (Sat). I'm using 2x6 for top support with .75" plywood ontop of that and .5" styrofoam ontop of the plywood. This is what the manufacturer recommended. The bottom will be 2x4 and the whole stand will be covered with a stainable laminate. I get to use my new biscuit cutter I got for Christmas. I hope to have pictures soon.

I'd like to know if anyone has used any sand from Home Depot for the display tank and the sump/refugium. Any suggestions and pictures would be great. Thanks
