if those tangs die, your great deal will turn into a horrible deal......this is terrible! you should have bought the fish and left them at the store and pick them up when you are ready.

I will tell you this right now that these tangs spend a lot more time in smaller tanks with many other tanks mates in any local fish store that you go to. If these tangs die solely of being "cramped" for a few weeks I'll quit this hobby and say your right. But you and I know that won't be happening :)

The clams are doing great under pc lighting. All of them are fully opened up, except one of the maximas. I think I purchased a dud with that one. They are even getting bigger. I've seen new calcium growth in the shells. I am planning on upgrading to an hqi 250 w mh. Hopefully under mh lighting they will do even better.

well you did ask what we thought of your nano didn't you? "I" think it looks bloody great! I wish people could stop flaming others when things are perfectly ok! You obviously have spent a great deal of time on this nano, and probably a heap more on your 125g.

here's **cheers** to seeing the great progression of you tanks!

Regards

I said his tank looks nice. That isn't the issue, Dacs.

Obviously Kennyboy is not going to listen to anyone but himself. I've been researching for 3 years now, so go ahead and learn the hard way.

How do you keep clams with PC lighting? From what I've read they need more light than that.. I may be wrong, and yeah the Tangs have got to go.. Thats not fair to them , not having enough swim room, expecially with all the LR thats in there.. WEll if you say its going good, then Good Luck, but move into the 125 quick. ;).

yes your going to have to move the tangs soon. I just think it's not fiar to them to have to live in a small tank. Can you post some pictures of your 125 to dee how far its coming along

WOW! I have the tang police on my case. Have any of you ever had tangs in a smaller tank? Or are you just recycling what you heard in the books or that guy from the lfs? They don't exactly freak out and die...All of this commotion has made me wonder how long a tang can actually live in a small tank. After I transfer my more "prized" tangs into my 125 I might just go and get a yellow tang and stick it in my 24g nano. I want to see if it will shrivel up and die or thrive and get bigger until eventually I will need to move it to a bigger tank. It will be interesting to see what happens. Who is to say that any fish we keep in our home aquariums doesn't feel cramped. Any home aquarium no matter how large is nothing but a drop of water compared to the ocean. Consider that a blue hippo tang roams a vast area of the ocean on a daily basis. Would a few extra feet of swimming room make my tang feel any better? I think not. But my 125 is coming along nicely. Pictures as soon as a get a real camera. Notice how "crappy" my fist pic was. That was taken on my cell phone. I had to pay a dollar in order for Verizon to email it to me :)

I love my fish just as much as the next guy, BUT WE EAT FISH. At least Japan does most of the eating. Whats fair and not fair for them is something I think we can't even begin to answer. Is it fair to keep a natural ocean creature in any glass box out of its natural habitat? NO! But I difinitely agree that tangs as a species will need to be moved to a bigger tank considering the size they will attain. Even when in the 125 will it still be fair to them? NO! And I have taken care of that problem with my 125 gallon all glass aquarium 7 ft long with no built in overflows(not reef ready) an oceanic painted black conopy and stand $1000.00 aquarium that I purchased at my lfs. Pictures soon to come.

I don't know if you nano dudes would know this. But what do you think of the Berlin method of filtration? Here is the methodology I have with my 125. Deep sand bed with live sand mixed in with aragonite substrate(3 inches minimum), Lots of Live rock(at least 50% of the tank full of it), and an aqua c remora pro hang on skimmer with mag 3. If my single aqua c doesn't do the job I may buy another one. So what do you fellas think of that? Do I really need all of those gizmos and gadgets these bigger tanks all seem to have? I was already in over my head buying a 125 in the first place. I really don't want to buy all of that extra junk such as a sump, calcium reactor, etc. Your input would be appreciated.

Oh and I forgot. I have strong water movement in my 125 as well. I got two seio 1100's. I am starting to eye those expensive tunze multi controller systems as well.

Anyways enough about my 125. This is the nano tank forum! More pics of my nano tank later and its cramped inhabitants coming soon!

Oh and hgbarwick, before I ever find these tangs a new home you will have to pry them out of my cold wet hands! :) I love them and I don't want them to suffer! Unfortunately I don't live close to the ocean. So I can't release them back into the ocean where they belong and would be truly happy.

yeah and you can't just realese fish into any old ocean. Your fish already reliey on ypu to put food in the tank. They wouldn't last long in the ocean. DO NOT DO EXPERIMENTS WITH FISH.
