I would if I could. They're 20" squre and I have 42" of tank on the inside wall in the back so I have to do it that way. I built the fixture already and I'm going to test it this weekend to see how the coverage is.
I think I might raise them up to 6" for more coverage but I'll figure it out once they are fired up.
Eric, I can't wait to get those corals in there. I want to get a chiller hooked up before I run the light full time. The water is 82 right now. I'm picking up a 3/4 hp chiller from a club member.
Here's a few more pics. The firts one is with 2 400's lit on the left. The second pic is with 2 400's on the left and 1 400 on the right lit. I haven't gotten the forth 400 wired up yet but it will be done tomorrow. The last pic is of my chiller. It's a 3/4 HP Custom Sealife. It is located in my garage to get rid of the excess heat.
If you haven't done so, I would put the A/C baffles and internal reflectors in your LA3's. You lose a bit of reflective capability throught the 2 holes. I put mine in, but didn't plumb them to anything. I love the reflectors.
I am using the 400 watt ,14k Hamiltons on PFO HQI ballasts.
Just my .02 cents
WOW! I hope mine looks like that some day. What I was going to do was hook up a venting system to suck air from the reflectors and blow it up into the attic. I think that would pull a lot of heat out of the room and out of the tank.
Well I started adding frags this week and they are doing great. I can't wait to get some nice corals back since I lost about $3K+ worth corals during my move. It makes me sick to even think about it. Right now I have 6 frags in the tank and will be get 6 more from a friend that tooks some during the move tomorrow.
What made you go with glass? I am looking at a 220 gallon (72x24x30) that is going to sit on a custom cabinet then drywalled off. See through into 2 rooms. Access from bottom and top (one side and attic) I am getting a quote next week for glass. I just don't like a few things about glass...its glass and can crack (California does shake) and I don't know how long the seals will last and lastly its heavy. Acrylic is light more transparent but scratches to0 easily while cleaning.
