I finally got the tank up and running

The tank itself is 96 * 30 * 45. It is quite tall but I love the effect. Currently I have about 300 pounds of live rock in the tank and am planning on adding 100 more.

10 hydor koralia 4's
1800gph Pan World return
DIY volcano skimmer
2 100 gallon rubber made sumps
3 400 watt HQI PFO metal halides

STILL TO COME
reefkeeper elite
Calcium reactor
Kalkwasser reactor
Carbon chambers for sump
Zeovit additives
moon light
SPS, LPS, and softies
tons of fish

Tank with beer bottle in the bottom left corner to show some scale

Top sump is fresh water that will be a automatic water changer that changes 75 gallons a week. Bottom sump will be filled with different reaction chambers, carbon, zeovit, filter media, nitrate reactor media, etc...

What if I keep SPS on the top layer only. The rest of the tank will be LPS and softy. The problem is that there is no more room above the tank. I have the lumen bright reflectors and the take up a ton of room.

Is it true that HQI 400 watt are like having 1000 watt normal bulbs?

I not saying that SPS will not live.. They recommend 1 bulb for every 2', with quality reflectors. I'm always into overkill...

Are you running PFO HQI ballast?? You also might find 48" to deep for only (3) 400 watt halides. I guess you can run the (3) and see how it goes...

I run (6) 400 watt HQI halides, (4) 160 watt VHO actinic and (4) 96 watt 50-50 PC's on my 8' 500 gallon system. This give me a broad spectrum of lighting and plenty of light. And my system is only 36" deep..

id add another 400w to make it one per every two feet. then just keep the sps up top, use 10k bulbs, and use some antinic suplements

They are PFO HQI 400 watters.
I was planning on running 20,000K bulbs.

How do the Zeovit guys get away with far less light than everyone else?

Yeah I will get some pics up Friday. I am away from my tank until then. Here are the specs of the skimmer

18" PVC that is 3/8"thick and 4 feet tall.
8" acrylic neck that is 6" tall before collection cup.
Wet neck collection cup
Square base that is 8" tall with diffusion tower with drain
Dart needlewheel pump
Sonic Air pump that is 80cfm
1800gph feed pump
Base, bottom of collection cup, top of reaction chamber, neck are all clear acrylic.
Total cost for the skimmer was under 1000 bucks

nice.im making a reeflo orca 250 replica and should have it done by this weekend.hoping i wont have to buy an air pump but no biggy if i do.mine too is under 1000.its all cast acrylic and black 3/8inch.amazing how much they charge for labor

This one has 1" thick flanges on the bottom right against the box. Everything is welded with weldon 40. The collection cup is 18 inches in diameter. It is pretty cool. They put the cone inside the main chamber so that it would not have to seal. Works pretty good.

I let the skimmer run for 4 days and it was producing handfuls of the crap. This thing rocks.
