My New And First Marine Aquarium

Thats good but you'll have to keep the temp very low.... about 65 degrees fahrenheit.... you MIGHT need a chiller

now i know EVERYONE will agree with me......... before you put anything in there........ you NEED to test:
ammonia
phosphate
nitrite
nitrate
ph

if everything is in check... then put that goby in there.... if your unsure of what each of those should read.... just ask... i'll be more than happy to let you know

even though you get water and rock that have been cycled... there is always a chance it goes through another cycle once moved into a new tank!

BTW good luck, and don't be discouraged. It can see intimidating at first reading all these things and your head is probably spinning. I wouldnt get another fish until your clown is taken care of in some way(return for credit or whatever way happens) let the tank run for a month and test your water every couple days. just take your time, don't rush, your not the first person to make a newbie mistake in this hobby.

^^ i agree

i was once in your shoes.... everyone was

when i was a newb i saw everybody saying to research, research, research.............. i never did

i made so many HUGE mistakes and lost so many fish b/c i didnt want to research............. well about 5 books and 486 posts later.... i now have a moderate knowledge of this hobby

one of the main things is to start off with a good base... aka a nice, clean, cycled tank

( that tank is plastic , not acrylic. )

From the looks of your first pictures there are bubbles on the side of the glass , from putting water in it .. and it is a little cloudy , im guessing you mixed up some salt water or bought it from the LFS then dumped nemo in there?

Please hear me out , I know alot of people are giving you advice etc but you have to just take the time to follow this . I could care less about the fish , thousands of people buy stuff and let it die .. at least you took the time to come onto reef central and post in the right forum heh . Im sure there are people with clown fish in betta fish bowls etc .

What is your budget? , I wouldnt suggest getting another fish for right now or doing the swap thing .. So if you can get credit , you do not need todo alot of research most of us here started with little knowledge BUT alot of us started knowing it would be expensive and used 30/55 gallon tanks at first and bought the equipment then got our live rock , fish etc .

You have the rock , sand , ( and im guessing you are just buying salt water from the lfs , since you dont have a RO unit (-cleans tap water basically , removes chlorine , metals etc etc- )

1 You can buy a 10 gallon tank anywhere , even walmart sells them .

2 Get a AquaClear by hagen , its a hang on filter you want the "30" model ( Put the carbon and the sponge it comes with into it , Clean the filter every week , just boil up some water on the stove then let it cool and clean the sponge in that , make sure its dry when you put it back in )

3 Buy a test kit for pH , Nitrate , Ammonia ( Walmart also sells something called fast test strips , which might be easier for you , they are pricey and dont last as long as the normal liquid based test kits )

as for lighting i need to know your budget .

Keep in mind , marine animals are not "gold fish"

Wow 65 degrees Is there any other way? And why so cold? I have tested the water with a quick dip test stip everythings so it's good. I'll test later today if I get the chance. Thanks for the input. And Yes I agree it does look like a kid's tank. It is my 1 year old daughters it's on A stand in her room. I do plan on painting the back and maby sides any seggestions on how to go about painting it. I was thinking black for the back or blue all the way around I guess wit ha paint brush sence there is already a fish and water.

Well I here you I trying to workk on some sort of ten gallon tank now I have a coupply of ideas floating around on this page
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=8006579#post8006579
I was just planning spme rock some cleaners and A pair of clowns. The light is the hard part I would like to keep it simple but after looking at some of these bulbs they can get expensive. I believe someone said a coralife 96 should do the trick and then maby down the road put a power head with some coral. Anyother ideas? As for the buget it's hecktick :mad2: the wife doesn't want nothing that is harder than what we currently have to take care of but I might make a deal with her. Because I already have a ten gallon tank freshwater that I could take down. And as for the filter I have one that came with my 29 galon from Walmart never used could I use it? Thanks for the info.
Thanks to the help everyone!!!!!

65 degrees is not necessary for the catalina goby. I know it says to on all the websites, but i have kept some in 80 degrees, and they did great. If they can take being caught off the coast of california, then put in a hot car to the warehouse, then put in an airplane in a tiny bag to be flown clear across the country, then they will be just fine in water thats a little warm
Its like goldfish....theyre supposed to be kept in cold water, but nobody ever does, and they do just fine.

Wow I hope so cause my little tank now is about 75 all day long sometimes 77 and sometimes 73 but never more or less so for. Thanks
