It couldnt decide between this and another which was a tri color . I may have to get that one tomorrow lol
:D

Its only a lil un (2 inches ) as the thread title says , looks like Ive got some phyto to feed for a while . It was opening up even more just before the lights went out tonight so I will post an update when it settles in .

hey Mad looks good! Whats the English clam seen like, LFS do u have a lot to choose from? give us Yank's some info LOL.

Thanks for your interest guys . My LFS gets regular new clams every week . Just today there were 10 ultra blue Maximas to choose from 2 Squamosas and 6 Hippopus with the unusual green markings (see my gallery) . There arnt enough Gigas and teardrop Maximas available at the moment but Deresas and Croceas are a plenty . I just had to get another ultra Maxima and will post a pic when it settles in . Its funny cos my LFS is by no means the biggest around but the selection is the best by far in the south west of England at the moment .:D

Ok , Im blaming this purchase on you guys and your appreciation of fine Tridacnids or am I just a clamaholic with no shame -

I popped into the LFS on the way home today (as you do :D ) and this beauty stood out a mile so I had to have it since the others are doing so well . The pics dont do it justice as it is magenta with all sorts of blues greens and golds going on .

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement I will be sure to update .

"mad mechanic reefer",

What do you feed your baby clams, how do you feed it, and how often to do you feed it? Sorry for the many question, I'd like to get one of those clams and would like to find out more about them.

Don't they close up the minute they see or sense something coming their way?

Thanx.

I dont proclaim to be an expert on these baby maximas by any means but here is how I keep mine -

As they are this small < 2.5 to 3 " I feed them Kent Phytoplex every other day by cutting the bottom off a lemonade bottle placing over and squirting 5ml in with a syringe . When I make a purchase and after I aclimitise slowly I inspect for critters , give the shell a good scrub and then attach to an old clam shell or suitable piece of flat rock underneath to protect the bysal opening from predation . My setup is biased towards SPS keeping so my water quality is very clean ie low nutrients , strong light (2 x 400w MH ) and high calcium + alk and all my clams are kept on the sand bed which allows me to look down upon them to show their coloration at its best .

I hope I have answered all your questions and by no means saying THIS is THE definitive way to grow out baby maximas but it seems to be working for me :)

How long does it take for the maxima's to grow from less 2.5" to about 3" where they would get most of their nourishments from the light. From What I understand, when they are small they depend more on feeding that light.
