i got my first fish for my tank today, a black perc. he seems to be healthy -- he is eating brine shrimp that i gave him earlier. he seems to be moving around the tank pretty well also.

the picture is not very good as i only have a point and shoot camera and i have water streaks on the side of the tank apparently. i still have to get the picture taking thing down.

are there any fish that these absolutely dont get along with?

Hmm. you guys are right. I looked up black saddleback and the pictures are exactly it. It has the yellow tinted fins with the white on his back fin, as well as the white around his tail fin.

The LFS sold it to me as a black perc (tank tag said so, as well as the receipt). Obviously i am not going to return it, but i think i may go say something to them about it. Is there anything special i need to know about this breed of fish?

Well sadly the LFS may not know better . these fish have been sold as black percs for the last few years. Thats why scientific names are so important in the hobby.

When fully grown they are one of the largest clowns, and can be very jumpy, They grow fairly slowly so you should be OK, and will host naturally in a haddoni carpet (mostly the black polymnus) anemone or a macrodactyla dorenesis (mostly the brown polymnus) (lta).
Good luck
