My new Breeding Darwin Morph Clowns

JustinGr

Clown Pimp
I just picked up a documented breeding pair of Black Darwin Morph Ocellaris. I put them in my 75 reef. The female is 3.5-4" and the male is 2-2.5".
I had a pair of juv Clarkii in the tank and for the life of me, can not catch them. I know the Breeders will kill the little guys, but so far, nothing.

Any tips on getting te Clarkii out without taking all of the LR and Coral out? I assume the days, or hours, are numbered for the Clarkii.

I have captured the guys before and they were never net shy, but today is a different story. It was not my intent to leave them in.

What kind of morph are the Darwin's? The laying Darwin's will be very aggressive to any new tank mates you add. Or even current tank mates. I have several laying pairs and my darwins are by far my meanest and aggressive towards me. Not saying yours will be mean. But laying clowns tend to take up their aggression up a notch or 2.

hey Justin, I'd say build a plexi fish trap with sliding door, but it may take some time for them to get used to it. I had to remove a large maroon clown, and ended up sectioning off part of the tank and then pulling most of the rocks w/o corals attached. Good Luck man!!!

if you need a fish trap I can let you borrow mine or tell you how to build a good one.

Sorry for the delay. I will get pictures tomorrow. However, after my black sailfin blenny started to shred the caudal fin of the male, and that the male lyretail anthias was chasing the female, I took all of the coral and live rock out, netted all of the fish except for a few firefish and the Darwins and put them in a FOT.

I then put in a small flower pot and presto, they tok to it like ugly on a chimp. She fluttered around it and spent an hour biting it, the male darted around it and in it for several hours, then the female took control and is now in the pot and the male is just outside the opening, every so often, she lets him in.

Now that the lites are off, she let him in to sleep.

The pot looks out of place in the reef, but they love it!

Post pics tomrrow.
