the clam looks like its gaping and might be on the way out. Hope you get that halide soon...

Yeah... i agree. I'm battling with Pyramid snails. They are doing a number on the poor guy, but I'm doing that I can. I remove them as soon as I find them

:(

do not mean to kill your fish buzz, or gang up on you..but in my opinion manderin not a good idea.. not only is your tank too small but have you done the research on them? Soo beautiful but so sad, i dont beleive pet stores should even sell them..
Yours already looks soo thin..did you see if his stomach is caved in? It takes awhile for them to starve to death, it soo sad..not your fault but shame on the pet store who sold him to you with your set up. For you and your fish i wish you the best of luck really. Please let us know what happens to him over next 2 months..by the way your tank looks great!! 8)

I've read up on them a bit and understand how it's important that they have enough to eat. He's spend the last day and a half going over the rocks eating and the like.

Stomach caved in? How can I tell. If he's starving, then he was starving at the store because I just got him. Hopefully I'll be able to fatten him back up.

I don't really get the "big enough" part. He's a tiny fish, half the size of the watchman goby. How big of a tank do they need? I understand that if you don't a suitable pod population, you'll need to train him to eat frozen food. I will certainly be working on that as best as possible.

We'll try and make this work. I'm confident we'll figure something out :) Thank you for your kind wishes and compliments :)

some people say nothing less than 75 gallon.. i was gonna put one in a 40 breeder lol and was told uhhh uhh.. he prob has been starving at the store..most doo..underneath where his ribs would be i guess it will look sunken or caved in on his underbelly if hes starved or starving. there was this great link thread out there i found when i google nano and manderins once..he kept one for three months was stoked thought he figured out how to keep them in nanos..sadly it wasnt to be but maybe he figured a trick out or two..good luck

Hey perm, I have a little bit of experience with mandarins in smaller tanks.

Give it a try, don't give up yet.

I've had a few so far, only one wanted to eat anything other than pods. The rest I gave back to the LFS once I decided that they were losing weight and I couldn't stop it.

Try feeding flying fish eggs. They are small, orange roe. Many mandarins seem to take to them, but not all.

Training methods are out there on the net and are helpfull too.

If worse comes to worst and the mandarin isn't gaining weight, the LFS should be willing to exchange the animal.

Thanks for the tips :)

I'm sure the LFS will take it back, but they were starving it also :( If I it doesn't work out, I'll see if I can find new home with someone elses reef.
