My new clam

Ok, I know not original, but this is my first clam and I'd like to get peoples opinions on it since it is my first one and all and I am a newbie with that regard (although I have read up on them so not just an impulse by, well sorta... read on).

Anyways, I swung by my fav. LFS to pick up some live brine shrimp for a little treat for my fish, and what do I see in his tank, 3 of these guys! Now may not seem strange, but he doesn't usually get hard to keep stuff just because he doesn't have very much lighting, etc to keep it, strictly a low-medium reef LFS (which for me is good), no SPS, only anemone are BTAs, no super sensitive fish, that sort of thing. So needless to say I was surprise to see one, I was thinking of getting one but the price usually kept me away, until I saw this for $30. Now I don't know anything about grades other than the higher the grade the more they charge you for it, but its aquacultured which is a good thing, and has a nice color that's neat :) So I slowly acclimated the guy, grabbed a magnifying glass looking for pyramid snails, and eventually put him into a little plastic cup with sand in it (I tried a shell, but the only ones big enough for those conch shells and they nearly broke my dremel trying to cut one in half!).

Now the picture, its my crappy no-anything 2MP camera, no macro, no fancy manual focus, etc. But I had to get a first day picture for reference, I'll hopefully swing by my mom's house tomorrow after work and borrow her camera so I can get a nice macro shot. But the 14000k MH were off by the time I got him in, only thing above him is about 18-20" of water, a couple 55w 10k pcs that are not as white as they used to be, and a 40w t12 actinic. He's about 2 inches across too.

I did get a bit worried when that crab (that I notice is wearing one of the turbo shells *grrr*) started poking around the clam, it retracted and I watched it like a hawk before it crawled away, some other hermits came by too and picked over the shell (hopefully just looking for some sort of hitchhikers to pick off). I do have a coral beauty too, but I'm ready to refugiumize his butt if he so much as stares at this guy wrong.

nice crocea, dont' worry about the hermit, i have a ton of them in my tank and they don't bother the clams, once in a while they climb over one of them but that is all.

Well as promise I got a nicer camera... macro ooooooooOooOoooh :)

So here's a couple nicer pics

And here's one from the top, I turned off one powerhead, forgot about the other, but I yanked the wrong cord that turned off everything (including lights) so there still is some distortion due to that, not to mention a little reflection of the camera (I didn't want to drop it in!). But its amazing how different the color is from this angle sheesh it turned from purple/blue to green! too bad I couldn't get right ontop of it within a few inches and use macro!

I bought one from Steve too....there was only 2 left so you must have beat me there. Watch out for the angel mine picks at my clams when they first go in, but then he leaves them alone.

Yeah I did, I swung by to pick up a treat for the fish, live brine shrimp (since he gets that fresh on thursday) and was like "Umm steve, that looks like a clam in your coral tanks, what the hell are you doing with those?" And as cheap as they were I had to get one. But yeah I picked it up when there were 3 left :)
