my new fish need help

Mario, keep an eye on things like they are for a few days. dont change the salinity up or down. if you see the powder develop then treat. if not, slowly raise the salinity back to normal over a period of 5 days. Give her till friday of this week to see if she develops any other signs.

mario, in looking at it, I seriously doubt C.irritans on that fish. what you saw was likely a scale that was hurt somewhere along the way.

as for the behavior, looks good to me. Ive seen them just ahng in the curent for hours only to get tired and get blown across the tank/

Sometimes theyre gasping for air because of the disease. I've seen that before! Its hard for me to imagine that you would get ich through their order. I've never dealt with ich with their fish.

Mario, you really need to see what ich actually looks like before you go any further cause this heads nowhere. I usually see ich covered fish at the larger chain stores....

Get someone near by you to check it out. You really need to have your water tested correctly by getting a refractometer before you go on. Although hydrometer does work pretty good if you know how to get it adjusted properly. When did you receive your order? Sometimes water quality have an effect on a fish especially on a fish thats already stressed from the move....

An healthy fish can and will fight off ich. Feed them high quality food and keep up with your water quality. So right now you need to do more water changes.

right i was planing on doing a 2 gollon water change tomorrow on my QT as far as eating im not noticing her eating but the blenny and smaller one are

I would feed extra right now. Like 4 times per day or more. I love my prime reef flakes. Along with some good frozen food. Watch the top cause that blenny can and will jump! If the clowns refuse to eat, purchase a frozen bar of cyclopeeze. That should entice her to eat. Cyclopeeze was suggested to me by matt at sustainable aquatics. At that time my baby clown was so tiny he was smaller then the size of a dime. Now he's having eggs with his girlfriend... they grow up so quick...lol

shes scratching more i noticed so i think i will start treating with copper tonight

Just measure the proper amount! You can easily over dose. I would use copper safe. Certain copper can leach within silicone, at least thats what they say...no personal experience. I used copper safe in my 55g before where I keep corals and inverts now without issues. But I did run carbon after the treatment for awhile.....

Far be it for me to be giving advice, since I am fairly new to saltwater... However, I think I would try other methods before dosing with Copper. For the fair amount of research I've done on the subject of ich (having dealt with it myself), Copper dosing requires close monitoring of the copper level in your QT (a good Copper Test kit is absolutely essential), a very close eye on the fish being treated, and may not be the best solution w/ two healthy fish in the tank.

If it were me, Copper would be the last thing I'd try (in other words, I'd try other solutions first). But again, thats just my opinion.

thanks and i hear ya,when it comes to treating with copper its a tricky thing but i have noticed that its better for the fish to do it in half doses everyday and not to just do the whole dose at once, but in my case here i am going to buy some copper tomorrow to have it on hand if need be.....so far i havent seen any scratching from the girl, the little guy is doing good for as far as i can see, even following her....as much as ya can in a 10g that is lol and the blenny is doing what blennys do i suppose, sitting on my heater and watching lol at times he gets off it and swims down the heater and back up it to sit up there again lol

well now im possitive that no matter whats wrong with her i think i will start copper tomorrow because she is now scratching on the pvc and twitching even more,i would move the blenny and the smaller clown into my display and only leave the big one in the QT to treat her but im not sure if whatever she has is in the water colum right now or not, they are or what seems to be fine and only she is twitching and scratching

Don't risk contaminating your display! Treat them all while you have them in the QT tank. Copper Safe is pretty easy to use, just remember you can't run carbon while treating with copper. I don't recommend treating tangs with copper cause it messes up their digestive system so it's harsh for certain types of fish too, mainly scale less ones.

FWIW the mods don't normally read through every thread so if you want the title changed you will have to report the thread and ask that. To report a thread you need to click on the little red triangle with the exclamation point in it in the lower left corner of the post. Also you can edit your own posts up to 1 hour after posting, in other words you could have edited you own first post when you posted the 2nd post in this thread.

As a side note I have never had anything but positive dealings with SA and can vouch for the healthiness of their fish...and I am a veterinarian:)

+1
Matt and his crew do a great job. I got 8 of there fish. And will get more. Also like about the SI they do.

I wouldn't normally comment on these threads, but I feel it might be helpful to insert a bit of information here. Saltwater "Ich" is caused by the ciliated protozoan Cryptocaryon irritans. It is a living parasite that irritates the fish and causes infection.

For a fish to have an infection, the protozoan must be present. It is possible to exclude this pathogen from an aquarium, system, or facility. In the case of a Cryptocaryon-free aquarium, no amount of stress will cause Ich to show-up on a fish (other bad things could happen of course!). It is also possible for a fish in an infected aquarium to remain healthy -- only showing signs of infection after a stressful event.

Think about malaria (or take your pick of pathogenic diseases) in humans; no amount of stress is going to cause you to come-down with malaria if Plasmodium isn't present (interestingly, both Ich and malaria are vulnerable to some of the same treatments!).

We regularly send-out live fish to be analyzed for specific pathogens and have yet to get a positive result from any fish in our hatchery facility. It's hard to prove a negative though, so we are always careful to keep stress low and monitor constantly.

I only say this because I feel that many of the MTRC members are friends. Mario, please imagine my reaction to reading your thread title after working hard to send a great order and for many years to build a successful business that hinges its reputation on quality animals, it is scary! If you have any questions about your fish, please feel-free to contact me or anyone at SA; we would be pleased to answer your questions or help you with a problem. We like to get feedback (good or bad) so that we can work to improve ourselves and our relationship with customers and hobbyists.

Matt

Thanks for backing me up Matt ;) Ich is not present on all fish but all fish should be treated as if they have it until you know for sure.

Mario get that QT tank up to par and you will have better luck. I would suspect ich being present from other fish you have had in there and these new fish succumbing to it because of sub par conditions within the tank before I would believe SA sent you sick fish.
