My New Nano Tank Project

Well, I have been planning a new tank for a while now. I originally wanted to have another tank built by SoCalCreations since they did such an excellent job on my last one. But a deal came up on a used acrylic tank that was just too good to pass up. The tank dimensions was almost identical to the one I was planning and it was in excellent shape. What more could you ask for?

With my wife's blessings, thanks honey, and some help with lifting, thanks SteveOhh and Shane, the tank was brought home last weekend. Of course, I then had to leave town for work so I couldn't even do anything with it :mad2:

Anyways, I will be doing some plumbing and other things soon. Still need to purchase quite a bit of equipment so it'll probably take a while before the tank is filled. To start, here are some pix of the tank and stand.

Looks like a pretty big nano to me . Looks great for a room divider or something in that type of fashion.

LOL..........yeah, I've always had nano tanks. Those who have seen them knows how much I tried to pack into them  I guess in the BIG scheme of things, no matter how big a tank is, it'll always be a nano compared to Mother Nature.

The tank was meant to be used as a room divider with the external overflow at one end. We don't have room in the house so it'll sit against the wall in the garage, pretty much in the exact same spot.

Kenny looks like you will have a lot more room now

Yes indeed  I am looking forward to the day that I can put my hand in the tank and not accidentally frag half of the corals.

That's not a nano. It's fricken huge!!! Imagine all the goodies that can go into that thing. Hehe.

And what is that bump on the euro-brace?

I have a bunch of stuff left over from my 50gal, hmmm...maybe I should put it up for sale.

what are the dimensions on this tank looks nice is it a 180g? love the external ovflw. Looks like a 60x24x24? with 3/4 inch acrylic very nice

i think it's some sort of nylon mat that he was covering the tank with.

awesome tank. looks like tank hasn't been drilled or done so from the top. Options abound.

The bump on the top is actually a piece of black acrylic that's used on one of the sides. To use the tank against the wall, one of the large back panels will need to be black or I'll be staring at the garage wall :D

Oh yeah, it's a 300 gallon nano  The dims are 72"Lx36"Wx27"H with 3/4" acrylic all around.

I already have a 120 gallon acrylic tank ready to be used as the sump. Future plans include an 80-100 gallon prop tank to be tied into the system.

300 gallons? nice! from 30-300, your going to need a lot more corals haha

Yep, but then again, you'd be surprised how much I have packed into 3 small tanks :eek2:

I guess all the stuff I have will have a chance to grow bigger now, instead of getting fragged everytime I have to clean the tank.

pookstreet - are you planning to keep your 30 gallon?

No, one tank at home is enough for me :D

Once the new tank is cycled and ready, everything will be transferred over and the 30 will be sold off. Most of the equipment will be used on the new tank but I may also sell some equipment that won't be used, such as some lighting stuff, skimmer, etc.

I'll be interested in your 30 gallon when you plan to sell it in the future.

I been wanting to call you one of these days to help me with the fragging, but been pretty busy with school starting again.

Here are my plans for plumbing, lighting, etc. Please chime in and LMK what you all think. Also if there is something else I may need or is useful. All suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

Ca reactor - GEO 618 (already have)

Kalk reactor - MRC (already have) will use to supplement Ca/Alk and to keep pH up

Skimmer - H&S A200 (already have)

Sump - 120 gallon acrylic (already have)

20-30 gallon acrylic fuge

80-100 gallon acrylic prop tank

Return pump - Reeflo Dart

Flow - Tunze Wavebox
- 2 x 1" Sea Swirls at the 2 corners opposite the overflow
- 1 x WavySea on the bracing closest to the overflow (already have)
- is this enough flow for the tank or would I need more?

Lighting - 3 x Phoenix 250W in Lumenarc Minis driven by E-ballasts
- 4 x T5HO's overdriven by IC ballasts

Controller? Necessity or luxury?

Chiller if needed

Portable generator for emergencies
