Do you have any idea if the male fertilizes them before or after they are laid?

In octopus fertilization is internal, so before the eggs are laid. I think cuttlefish eggs are fertilized externally, after the eggs are laid. I'll know in a few days if they are fertile. I'm excited to see someone else has raised this species. I am going to document this well, and possibly publish a small paper on it.

Is this a species that dies after hatching eggs like many Octopus?

The eggs are definately fertile. I think I have about 2 weeks before the hatch.

yes becare make sure mother eats try emeral crabs they often die but some live just be patient
