Too bad the O.s. is so large, Seven inches is absolutely as big as they get and it is going to be difficult to get it through more than a couple of molts.

darn, so could he live out his life in a 20H? without cracking the tank. i think its a she, anyway shes making dents in the acrylic 12 gal quarentine tank. the ciliata is doin awsome.

what is the normal life span of a peacock mantis? I just got one from fishsupply.com, about 4 inches.

I wish I could give you a definitive maximum age for O. scyllarus. I can't. The longest I've heard of one being in captivity was 4 years, but it was collected as a small adult. My guess is five or six years, but I could be off by a couple of years. Most animals sold to aquarists last at most two or three years.

He is about 6 inches long, and very cool! I feed him vitamin enriched krill, fresh tuna, and an occasional crawfish for a treat! He has eaten a few goldfish, but I know those are very unhealthy so those are a VERY rare treat... A local fish store had found him at the market in Atlanta, he was not on their buyer list, so none of the stores knew they had one. He sat for a few weeks there, and according to the LFS guys had dulled from bright green to a olive color. I've had him for about 1 1/2 months, he molted about two weeks ago into an orange color, and some of his blues around his eyes and stalks has turned a little green. I have a 20 watt PC 50/50 that is very bright, and I understand that contributes to their dulling... I have made him a much larger and darker cave out of MANY pieces of tonga LR. I hope he will not dull much more after the next few molts...
