I picked up a new RTBA. If it hasn't moved and is attached to a rock in 3 hours is it safe to say it will stay there or are these things completely unpredictable?

Scared to put my nice corals back in the tank =)

I'll throw up a pic for the hell of it. Taken under 20k 175 halides with VHO actinics.

Yeah it is hard to say, that's why I started my tank after the cycle with the RBTA as the first inhabitant. I kept an eye on it (with my clowns) for about a month+ before I started adding corals I liked. I was lucky and it hasn't moved since, even after moving the tank. It did split once but the clone didn't stray too far. The tend to like dark crevaces though.

IME RBTAs like to have their base hidden, so I would think that your anenome will want to move to another spot before settling.

If you have any corals, keep an eye on it as it can cause some damage while moving around.

hmm, maybe I can put some rubble pieces around it's base because it is in the perfect spot right now.

I loves caves and crevices which it can squeeze the base into and if needed be able to retract into if indanger. of all NEM's RBTA's are the most mobile and love to look for new locations if certain things in its environment change such as lighting, temp, water flow, food or probably being bother at.

Well yup, it's on the move. It's now attached to the back of my tank behind my rocks where I can't see it. Great =).

I just found my golfball sized gbta in my sump! I am not sure how it managed to climb over the overflow wall, but it must have. :)

yeah my lights just went out and it's still moving. Making me very very nervous haha. I'm sure my hydor would probably blend that thing up real fast.

Seriously, it will move all over the place before it finds a place it likes... and that typically means coming within striking distance of a powerhead which will make quick work out of it. Would hate for you to lose such a great specimen.

Some folks have taken felt, or other porous material and have wrapped their powerhead intake to keep stuff out. Might be something to look into real soon.

Recently lost my prized RBTA ( cash cow ) to a MJ1200... shreded it to pieces and made a milky soup in my QT.

ewwww. Sorry to hear that man. Yean I ditched my maxijets for hydors. Hopefully I have better luck witht these. My anem moved around all night and I found him roaming along attached to my frogspawn in the middle of the night. I quickly pulled him off and put him near some rocks. He has attached to a crevice and hasn't moved in about 10 hours. Luckily I don't see any damage to any of my corals.
