People say not to match up yellows and sails, but it is one of the most common pairs you will see. My old yellow and sail were best of buds. In fact, when I sold them, I would not separate them. The sail followed the yellow where ever he went. The only issue that might arise from this situation is a lot of tangs in a small space. Tangs usually require a minimum of 75g space to roam around as they require a lot of swimming space. I had 3 tangs in a 75 at one time, one of them got too stressed out and ended up dying. Now the great thing is that there are no rules set in stone with saltwater as there are always special circumstances. These three tangs could be just fine in a smaller space, but it is something to be weary of.

and to answer prince, when pairing tangs (even though the sail/yellow pair is an oddity) you want to match tangs with different face and tail patterns. If you notice the yellow and sail have a triangle tail and the powder blue has a split tail. Also, the sail and yellow have that longer butterfly mouth and the powder blue has a much shorter mouth. You will see flatter mouths with rounder faces in the clown tang.

thanks for the info i was considering a yellow and sail in my 140g that im setting up but i have a CBB and do not want them to bully him so i think i might jst get the sail since he is known to be less aggresive fowlrATMhaha what size tank is that? and how big are all those tangs

In my opinion, housing multiple tangs works well provided they have enough space. If you have an aggressive individual, its often better to have more tangs than less to balance the aggression.

In my current tank, I have a hippo, atlantic blue, yellow, purple and sohal tang. The sohal is definitely the bully, however he is equally mean to everyone and isn't able to single one out.

My sohal was the bully until the unicorn grew about two inches bigger than it. Now there isn't as many problems in the tank that there was before. Good luck with the tangs they look great.

i have a yellow with a huge sailfin no problems i like to know how the powder blue does after a while every one i have seen just chases the heck out of every thing

ive got a big yellow, a clown, and a niger trigger that all get along awesome... and the trigger doesnt mess with corals either... knock on wood... haha... i guess the rule of thumb is there is no rules...

best lookin sailfin ive seen in awhile josh...

blue was the first one in there so far they get along fine no bullies for the moment the sailfin will follow the blue around for a few minutes then the yellow will pass him and he will follow the yellow and then switch back

update all 3 came from cpt larrys its been a week now and all is good. they are all healthy and eating very well the blue will swim away from the yellow when they both go for the last bit of food during feeding but he isn't trying to bully him. the captain has a huge powder blue for $74 hes beautiful.
