Yeah, I get what you are talking about, with the look and texture of the sand. I have thought about taking mine out because of the snow globe effect when fish kick it around but can't seem to get the will to vac it up. I guess with acrylic you'll have to be careful anyways so might as well have the look of sand too.
Picking the proper grain size is going to be important, because I'm cranking a VorTech MP40w in the tank, and may add a Tunze 6025 as well. The last thing I want is a constant snow storm.

That is one PURTY TANK!!!!!!!!

With that shallow of a tank I wouldnt go with sand. IT WILL BE A CONSTANT SANDSTORM. Gonna have to go with more of a crushed coral or if you want the sand you will have to go with weaker powerheads.

Thank you.

I have sand in my 20 long holding setup (12" deep) right now, and haven't had too many issues... that being said... I did place some rocks on the sand bed directly below where the VorTech sits.

It's also a little larger of a grain as well... which I'm not a fan of.

"a "name brand" custom acrylic tank builder."

You mean it didnt have a little Deer up in the corner that said "nothing runs like a Keith" under it?

Keith does an amazing job. he built a frag tank for me very similar to TJ's tank with similar dimensions and it is awesome.

Now the real fun begins. Get ready to open up the wallet TJ!! LOL

If my sump and fuge combo turns out anywhere near as nice as your tank....i'll be extremely happy....nice work, Keith.
I'm sure it will turn out just as nice. Everything he has built for me has been top notch. Here is the sump that he also built to go under the system.

Oh yeah... just dropped $125 on plumbing supplies today... I hate that little uncalculated cost associated with the tank. :mad2:

Emergency drain on right... I forgot to mention it, but the emergency line is 1" PVC the entire length. The HGB drain lines step up, and empty into a common 1.5" drain line just below the box.

Thanks Vivek. I have a graveyard of half-used parts from all the screw ups though.

I'm leak testing it now, so far so good... If all goes well, I'm hoping to get the stand in place and salt added tomorrow evening.
