At least he didnt die to the triggerfish and I dont think it was even stress caused from the triggerfish. He ate just fine for a week, never showed any issues. The triggerfish and him didnt even see to notice each other. Then one day, the hawkfish basically stopped moving except his eyes, he got real pale and within four days was dead. I pulled his body out and he didnt have any bite marks on him at all, I figured the trigger might give him a taste once he was dead but there was nothing.

Anyway, always hate to lose a fish but I hate to lose them more when I dont even know why. I have that experience with Petco though, a lot of their fish only last a couple weeks then kick the bucket, thats why I rarely buy from them.

yea that always is the worst part of the hobby, when you dont know why your fish died or how.. yea for some reason i never buy from petco cus the employees didnt know anything about most of the fish they had. i remember once they were telling me that a powder blue wasnt aggressive and i could keep them in 55. maybe they were just trying to fool a customer..:eek1: how's the trigger doing? you thinking of adding any other fish to the tank.?

I have worked at Petco for 3 years and if anyone in my store tries to give customers the bum info, I will take over or have my main fish guy take over (he is like fish guru encyclopedia guy). Not all Petcos are alike... there's always bad apples within companies. My marine aquatics section is quite nice considering the crappy salt and food they give us for store use. :lmao:

my fault blobbebo.. i didnt mean all petco's nothing personal, i just meant my 2 local ones by where i live...

those teeth look mighty naughty.

You're telling me :) He isnt afraid of my hands being in the tank, I'm pretty sure I'll receive a bite pretty soon. Right now I'm watching him the whole time I'm doing something and he isnt getting REAL close but he will hover about 6 inches away watching what I'm doing.

One of these times I'll stop watching him and that's probably exactly when he is going to bite the hand that feeds him :)

cant wait for that day recty LOL, mr hat dude from ACF got mauled by a maroon when i was there, sounds like the next time we have a bbq there i know whats the main course! haha i think a trigger would do more damage tho.

The trigger is doing good. At this point in time, I'm not really planning on adding any more fish. If there was something I felt confident could live with him and not cause either stress to the trigger or stress to the added fish, I'd be all for it, but I cant think of a fish that would fit that niche.

I could always add another trigger but a 40g tank really isnt big enough for any other triggers and certainly not for two in the tank. It wont even be big enough for this guy eventually even though he is slow growing.

I wanted to add a clown trigger but I can just see that being bad :)

well recty you could give/trade the undy for a clown with Tim. get a baby (like 1-2") and let it grow up then give it to the hat-dude with the big tanks LOL.

That's true, I hadn't thought about a damsel or two. I'll think about it some more, but the fish is doing pretty good all on it's own, it might be good to just not complicate things.

I wish the tank was bigger, I'd like to add a passer angelfish to the mix, I think it would be OK with the trigger BUT the tank isnt big enough for one of those. If I had the tank that was big enough for a passer, I wouldnt have just a trigger and an angel in there, I'd want a lot more fish.

It's nice having a small tank, very easy maintenance, but it's also kind of a bummer not being able to keep the big cool tangs and angels. Oh well though :)

Has anyone ever tried two undulated triggers in the same tank? Two SMALL ones? Not two large ones? Like under 3 inches small?

Mine is too big to try that with as he is a little over 3 inches but I was wondering if it's been done before?

Eh, I've got the time if I want to do it, I just dont really want to have to dedicate any part of my life to something besides my daughter right now.

Right now, sure I could do it, but what if something comes up that takes more of my time, like a second child or just my little girl starts taking more time? I just dont want to get involved in anything that much right now, someday I will again.

This small tank is perfect for my needs, I just wish there were LITTLE angels and tangs :)

I here where you're coming from, Recty. That's exactly why I didn't get into saltwater until my kids were older. Unlessss...you teach her to do water changes.
