My new tank

That's cool, what size did you buy him at? I'd like to know growth rates, so if he went from 2" to 9" in a year and a half, that's pretty fast, but if you bought it at 6" then that's different :) Do you happen to have a current picture?

Hmmm, my pineapple seems to be the most aggressive trigger yet. The most aggressive towards other fish and the most skittish about me... he will make the other fish leave his space with no hesitation, even though they are bigger, but if I come near the tank to take pictures or feed he zips into hiding. The queen took literally 2 seconds to be used to me feeding and the undulated and whitetip took about 2 days.

He's pretty much taken over the coliseum, that seems to be where he likes to hang out the best. I bought some LR and made a cave on the left of the tank and he sleeps there at night but during the day he hangs out with the Romans.

Here's some pictures I took today, I have to sit quietly for a couple minutes before he thinks I'm not there and comes out to cruise.

And yep, as Palmer said, I'm going to sell him the two first triggers I bought and keep these last two. It gets me down to a more manageable bioload and "social load" on the fish. It will give me a little longer to source out an upgrade tank :)

I will try to take some pic's in the next couple days, I got him at 6" about a year and a half ago. He too used to guard his spot more, but has mellowed out with the other fish, who most are his size or bigger, but does go on bully runs a few times a month, with no damage. Still 1.5 years later is still on the shy side compared to my other triggers.

Yeah, I'm thinking he is going to be a shy one. That's fine though, not every fish has to be out zipping around the tank nonstop.

I'd love to see pictures of your larger one.

So, 3" in a year and a half, that's not really too bad growth for a large fish in captivity, I bet it's pretty thick too? Mine really has that bruiser look to him, like he's the bouncer of the fish world.

I finally got some update pics of my Yellow Margin Trigger.

Wow, thanks for posting. It looks great, definitely has some chompers going on.

Unfortunately, mine has really gone downhill lately. I've got it back in it's own separate tank, but it's getting really skinny and wont eat. It ate great for a couple days then went downhill fast.

I still blame shipping, it came in so cold and I thought was actually dead. It looked recovered but that only lasted 24 hours or so and then it's been getting less and less hungry. After like two days of that it wont eat at all.

I'm trying different foods in QT but not really having any luck, it cant get much skinnier and still be alive.

let me know if you want to keep one of the triggers if that one did/is going to die. im fine with just one. good luck.

That's too bad, hope he pulls through, I know for about almost the first year I had to target feed mine and/or put extra food in because He wasn't aggressive at feeding time, with all my other guys, food doesn't last long in my tank, but now he's more aggressive, except when feeding the Eels he hides alittle.

Yeah, so far back in the QT he still isnt doing good, I almost think it might be blind. It acts like it. I'll keep nursing him along though, I hope he pulls through.

i think it would be kool to have a blind fish, you could have like an awesome title if you were able to keep it alive.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, your little girl is just beautiful Enjoy her.

I love your undie and have always wanted one. Does your undie grunt?

Dont get me started on the little girl, I could post pictures of her all day long ;)

Well, since I moved the pineapple into QT, I went ahead and placed it in the QT the queen was in and moved her out to the display. That QT tank is much better suited than the smaller one he was originally in.

So far, so good. The queen shows no aggression yet towards other fish, the main thing I can already tell is she is an absolute piggy at feeding time. I mean SUPER PIG...

On a good note, the queen came in on the skinny side, definite lines down the cheek bones and across the forehead from not enough fat/muscle/flesh underneath the skin, classic starving look. It had probably been kept in captivity a little while with little to eat before I got it. Anyway, a week later and the queen is already showing much sign of improvement. She no longer has that gaunt look at all, in fact I'm thinking she's already getting a gut on her.

The bad news is she likes to blow in the sand. I've always had crystal clear water on this tank and now it's always slightly cloudy from the sand being stirred up. Eventually my filter will pull it all out but it looks milky when she really starts going crazy in there.

And then the whitetip wanted to come look at what the queen was looking at...

So far neither the undulated or the whitetip seem to care the queen is in there. They all swim together sometimes and apart at other times, so they know each other exists but they arent having a problem with it. I'm selling off those first two tomorrow, so it will just be the queen for a while and eventually the queen and pineapple, IF the pineapple lives. He isnt looking so hot.

bigred- dang

recty- ya know i was thinking last night, that green sheen to the pineapples eyes seemed really odd to me at first so maybe you are right and its blind. it would be a shame tho. atleast it isnt in the wild. gaaah i cant wait another 1 1/2-2hrs lol, the whitetail might turn out to be my favorite, it looks sooooo nice! maybe it was a bag idea to have a DSB in my 75 lol, now i wont be even able to see to the back.

2 quick questions, do the undy and whitetip swim out in the open a lot? and do they like a lot of flow? i have a K4 plus 2 mj1200 (surface aggitation) and another 1200 or 400 for some flow in a corner. is it too much?

The undulated is in the open all the time, in fact he rarely hid in the rock work which is odd, most people report the exact opposite. The whitetip also swims out in the open all the time.

I think they will handle easily as much flow as you can give them. Triggers are like little helicopters, they swim all directions and sometimes upside down just as easily as most fish swim forwards. They can handle your flow rates with no problems :)

The green sheen on the eyes is normal for that fish. A lot of triggers have that, it's just the way they look. I dont believe that has anything to do with the blindness, other pictures of pineapple trigger's around 2-3" look exactly like my fish, I just think the shipping caused some problem. Being in such cold water for so long might have ruined the outer layers of the lens of the eye, hopefully over time it will get better, but that's pure speculation, I'm not basing that off science or experience at all.

Yeah, they just weren't quite what I wanted, which I didn't know until after I already had them unfortunately ;) They went to a good home, I'm not sad about selling them.

The bad news is she likes to blow in the sand
Tee hee!:lmao:

I had a Mag 24 burn out because of that. So, is it just the Queen in the tank, or are the other small fish in there yet? The Queen's colors look really good, btw.

Just the queen. The other two triggers I sold and the pineapple is in a QT, it just isnt doing good at all and wont eat. It's actually lasted longer than I thought, it's very skinny though and appears to be blind.

I'm thinking about adding a dragon wrasse, the one locally that I saw tonight is 3" long, so about the same length as the queen. With the potential to get up to a foot and be aggressive, I think it's a good pair for the queen, but as you brought up in the other thread it might be bad if the queen finds it hiding in the sand.

The striped blenny I had died the other day. I noticed it wasnt eating when everyone else was, it just stared at food then swam away. It did this for 3 days then I found it dead on the bottom, just like the other one that died a week before that.

They were very cheap fish and were bought at a large chain pet store, I pretty much figured they wouldnt last forever but I had thought they would last more than 3 weeks. It's too bad, they were cute little fish and they did a good job keeping small bits of food out of the water.

So yeah, just the queen and soon to be a wrasse, and thats all I'm going to have in the tank. If/when I upgrade, I think I'll just move to something like a 75g for a while so that they have more room, then eventually into a 180.
