The inline meters are not accurate at all. There is also no way to calibrate them. I have two of those dual inline meters on my MaxCap and they are both way off. Your incoming water is not 49ppm. We average around 150-200ppm on Long Island out of the tap and it fluctuates depending on the season and time of day.
The best one is the HM Digital COM-100 handheld meter. It can be purchased for about 50 bucks from any of the RC sponsors that specialize in RO/DI.
Make sure you use a clean drinking glass that is rinsed with RO/DI water a few times before you take the reading. If you use a plastic cup, which leaches stuff into the water, it will never show 0 TDS even if your output water is 0 TDS.
0 TDS is very possible with a quality unit.
