Wow!! Those teardrop patterns and colors are amazing!
Are these types difficult to keep alive, or do they have the same sensitivty as the captive-bred maximas?
thanks sahin...I love my teardrops and soon hope to get a couple few more. I think they are the coolest thing...well besides my mandarin in this hobby.
Clams are one of the main interests for me in this hobby. I have a Derasa clam right now that doing well. But I am so afraid of it getting the dreaded "pinched mantle" disease that I put off buying another clam for a long time till we learn more about this situation. You are very brave in stocking so many beautiful clams which must have cost so much as well. I would just give up the hobby completely if I had so many nice clams and they were to die.
Sorry to sound negative, but I want to buy more clams but I just dont have enough confidence right now.
Do you have any special procedures in place to help cope with keeping the clams like in another tank if one did get the disease?
I have had my crocea go through the mantle pinching. The key IMO is to catch it early I spend so much time watching my clams my GF hates it. =) But when you see something out of the ordinary like that I took it out to observe it make sure not snails were on his shell...then I did a FW dip and monitored him from there. I don't know what causes it but I pulled it through no problems to date after that. My maximas I have never had a problem with. I also love clams and that's what drives me in this hobby, my clams and frags. I have 5 fish in my 135 and none in my 125 tank. I will buy more teardrops and maybe dedicate one of the tanks to JUST teardrop clams. They are breathtaking in person looking down in the tank.
Thanks I got the big papa at Aquaprop.com...it was the only one I have purchased that did not come from Barry. I must say they did a great job of shipping and packaging that big monster.
