My new w/c Soloman Islands Clownfish!!!

Well, I took the plunge and decided to order a clownfish from Drs. Foster and Smith LiveAquaria. I could not be happier, the fish arrived in great condition, and HEAVILY eating by the second day.

Acclimated her last night, and now she is happily accepting a fish about 1/2" smaller than him/her as the boss. This will be amazing...a pair where the female is actually smaller than the male...I would think though that after the pair is fully established, the female will start to grow rapidly.

Here are some pics:

Tank needs some cleaning I know, but they seem happy as anything :) Plus being the only fish in a 90g I am sure is pretty nice;)

Just so you guys all know, it is the clownfish in the lower pic. The other one (smaller) in the top pic was a clownfish I got off another website about 3 months ago.

thanks georgie!

I have to ask you guys a question. I honestly, do not think that she was wild caught...unless they found a clutch of eggs and hatched them out, I have never seen a w/c clown with that kind of 'blended' middle stripe...

my solomon clowns from the Drs. mine seem a lot darker orange then your photo. i know nothing about clowns though.

Hope some others will chime in with more experience than I have. This "bossing" thing as an indiicater of the female, is it always the rule? I have a b&w ocellaris male and an orange ocellaris female. The male is most definitely the "boss," especially when it is time to lay. He will herd her into the flower pot, and after the eggs are laid, he is the primary care giver. He is also about 1/2 her size.

Absolutely. It happens with EVERY pair of clowns. Some more than others, but it ALWAYS happens.

PSam, those look like great clowns, maybe mine will turn that orange color.

Very Nice clowns.I have 2 pair and one pair is putting down a nest regular.2nd pair I think will start soon they have been cleaning a spot .

Or maybe the tide will turn when the new arrival fully acclimates to the surroundings. Even breeding pairs have been known to break up, both become female, etc. Be ready for anything.
