Found this little guy at the LFS yesterday - He's only an inch or so long. Too cool. Not sure of ID though, thinking G. affinus or C. tuberculata

What do you think?

It is not a gonodactyloid.
Looks like a chorisquilla tuberculata, but im not 100% sure. Only 99 percent.
Nice find.
Here are some pics to compare.

Thanks timmy

I saw the pics on your other thread which is why I also thought it might be tuberculata. Though, it also resembles the photo of the affinis as shown in Debelius' Crustacea Crustacea Guide of the World.

Leaning more towards the C. tuberculata based on the telson.

Thanks again!

Timmy,

Point of information. Gonodactyloidea includes the family Protosquillidae which includes the Chorisquillids. There are several small, red Chorisquillids that resemble these animals. I can't rule out C. excavata, C. convoluta or C mehtae. In fact, I'm not even sure that these are the same species.

So Dr. Roy

Are there any distinctive features that can help me differentiate? It'll be hard for me to tell / look. The little rascal stays pretty much in it's tunnel thus far. It periodically pops out to snag a pods that swim by.

I'm glad it decided to hole up in the piece of LR in the front of the tank at least.

That is pretty much all Chorisquilla do. They almost never leave their cavities except to make quick lunges as passing prey. The keys to identify this group are almost all based on the size and shape of the bosses on the telson.
