My Niger shark

My niger trigger doing his best impression of a shark during a water change.

While it's a bad photo for many reasons, INCLUDING the fact you can see the lens and the flash is reflecting bad, I love the way the light shines through the water and gives him that cool "ghost flames" look.

SHAAAARK!

That's why I love my MH light. Everyone seems to be going T5 these days, but I've kept my metal halides, having all your light come from one source gives that amazing shimmer, whereas having it come from multiple T5s gets rid of that.

Those ghost flames you speak of are cool. The photo is not bad at all. I would be happy if any of my photos looked like that.

Nooo see I'm talking about replicating it in camera like you did. You would need a flash that you can take off of the camera and position elsewhere though.

Yeah, that actually wouldnt be that hard to replicate with a separate flash :) I hadnt thought of that.

Cool shot Recty. You are right that the shark fin and ghost flames make the shot.

I think Adobe should create a "ghost flames" filter! I have friends who work there. I should suggest it to them.

I'd be tempted to crop the shot tighter so the top of the frame was just under the lower part of the uppermost lens reflection (gets rid of "worst" part) and then to get busy with the clone brush trying to restore the background behind the remaining reflection (over the reflection thereby doing away with it).

Keep the halides! Light with halides. Supplement with T5s.

I thought about it ;) But since it's just Reef Central I didnt feel like doing the "work" to make it a better shot, heh.

If this was National Geographic I might have done it though ;)

I hear you. So what, we're not worth it, huh? ;)

Another interesting shot might be to crop just the center band with the ghost flames and playing with that.
