My Ocellaris breeding thread

There are in fact like 4 of them that exhibit this pattern. It doesn't seem to get any darker or lighter, but it is really cool. I've also noticed the clowns with the white around their tail is getting "whiter"

Used my D-SLR today to take some close-ups of the different ages.

This is one of the 69 Day olds with the darker tail pattern.

I have noticed on the growout tank that some of the bigger guys are beginning to carve out their influence. There's definitely now a pecking order and you can tell which clowns tolerate which other ones. This has been forming within the last couple of weeks and it is now to a point where a lot of the clowns now swim in the middle of the water column, as opposed to all being toward the bottom near the PVC elbows. A big bunch now come up to the surface to be "first in-line" for the TDO, while the others just wait in the water column for it drop down.

Great read, another source to refer to as I start the breeding extravaganza :) from my reference breeder he has skipped using BBS at all and has saw no increase in mortality rates. He has advised me to not bother with it and move straight to otoA overlapped with rotifers rather then using BBS.

He also tried out the RGcomplete while it was in beta testing (was one of the testers) and advised me that he feels the RGcomplete does not have the proper nutrition for the rotifers. He advised I use the Rotigrow+ as he has been with the most success out of what he has used as rotifer feed.

I would agree that you can skip BBS, but then you would need to feed your rotifers until meta at least.

Here are the youngest ones, now 43 days old.

From the breeder in my area where I am getting my information he recommended to me to go from rotifers to Oto A without BBS. He starts making the switch at day 3 and usually has them solely on Oto A by day 7 (where I will most likely continue to feed rotifers since I have to purge them anyways)

I like the option to avoid raising more cultures than I need to and having the ability to raise them with only one culture going makes it much more manageable, I can spend more time looking at the babies and less time looking at my cultures to ensure they aren't crashing on me.

Here is my growout now 83 and 93 Days old.

These are my 49 day olds. I'm thinking they will go into growout tonight or tomorrow.

Otohime larval growout pellets. They are sold in various sizes A is the smallest then B1->B2->C1->C2->EP1->EP2. There are two kinds of "OTO" one "plain" and the other called Top Dressed OTO which we usually shorten to TDO. Top Dressed OTO contain Astaxanthin is a caratenoid and an antioxidant. In clowns, it makes them more orange and promotes "well being." You can also feed Cyclops eeze, which are rich in Astaxanthin ( I feed my tanks frozen cyclops eeze, the fish go crazy for it). It is pricey but it is supposed to promote good health in general. There are a lot of homeopathic supplements that now include Astaxanthin for human consumption, though I have not tried any.

There has been a noticeable increase in their orange pigment since I've started feeding astaxanthin rich foods. I would argue that their appetite is even better as well.

I have not been able to move the 58 day olds to grow out. There's quite a difference in size and they are not eating the same sized OTO, so until then, I think I will just "upgrade" them to a 20 gallon long tank for now as they seem a bit cramped in their nursery tank.

Is top pic the 59 DO and bottom pic the mix of 93 & 103 DO? They look great. The bottom ones look big. When are you planning on selling them?

Yes. The big ones are between .75 inch and 1.25 inches. I will sell some when they reach 1.5 inches, at least that is my plan.
