My odd spotted mandarin

Found this guy among a large shipment of spotted mandarins and he stood out for his pattern differences, he has been in my Tank for 3 months now and seems to be adapting fine to a bare bottom reef, he has gaining size and weight from when I got him.

Looks to be Synchiropus occidentalis. Nice fish! Nice find on a rare Mandarin. A western Australian variation of the regular spotted Mandarin. Rare and expensive if the seller knows what he has.

Hey Rogger,

Did it arrive in indo shipment? Probably not Aussie, lol, they are not gonna mislable that fish!
I think it is Synchiropus picturatus and not synchiropus picturatus occidentalis
pictured here.

All,
Rogger owns Rogger's Reef Food, a killer food that you should all try if you have not. Thanks for the food, I will be home within the hour!

Thank You Ted, yes the fish arrived on a Bali shipment, I agree that it is a picturatus too, the odd shape of the spot is probably some genetic mishap, that I found irresistible when I saw him :)
