My paly's are turning insideout!! WHY??

I have had a zoo/paly rock in my tank for about a year now, and it has been one of my favorite ones in my tank. In the past month or so, the zoos have looked better than ever, but the palys are not. The color is still good, but three or four of the biggest polys have started to turn inside out almost. The color is still good, but when they start to turn, the best way to describe the way they look is like a green pencil eraser. That is when they are at their worst. Why are they doing this?

I have 250w 14K MH on my 29g, and they are in the top third of the tank. But in the past month I have moved the rock several times trying to get them to stop, but nothing helps.

Any suggestions?

I have a couple of palys doing the same thing. They look like they're swelling up. The color is great though and they appear healthy. I did notice that when they got more light they began to "deflate".
Perhaps you need to change one of your old bulbs for a new one or move them to a higher light area of your tank. If you do move it though give them a few days to improve. It took mine a little while to get back to normal.

I've seen it happen before. It usually means their agitated.

they might irritated, why im not sure. mine does this as well. sometimes when i feed them it does it, other times it does it for no reason.

My my PE's do that but just not to that extent. It happens when I move them around.

My bulb is less than six months old. I have had these zoos all over the tank. When I move them I leave them in a spot for at least a couple of weeks. So far nothing has seemed to help.

Mine do that and my light fixture is only a few months old. I wonder why they do this myself?

Do you feed them?

I'd found like this when i over feed them and I notice that your paly have long base(coenenchyme), does anyone think like me, it need more light?

I have never thought about the over feeding. Is that possible? The light thing I have a hard time thinking that is it. I have had them all over my tank, an I get the same results.

I can't prove that caused by over feeding, I just noticed that when I feed them more and more, it will appear like that.

Normally that is one of stress signs in zoas. The case I found, I guess, the excess food will cause the problem from bacteria blooming or others nuisances in their stomach. (just my guess) ^^;

I think I will try to cut back on feeding and give that a try. It can't hurt.

Just an uupdate on the zoos. I finally moved them to the middle water of the tank. I left them alone for about a week, and they all came back bigger and brighter than before. I did cut back my feeding schedule a lot, and maybe that helped. I ended up moving all my bottom zoos up and they too have all improved.

I have a 250w MH on my 29g, and the bulb was just turned on for the first time at christmas. Maybe the bulb just isn't strong enough.

I have some of the purple w/ green mouth polyps like enraged showed and they do this also....what do you feed them???

I feed twice a week now, and I make a mixture of coral, marine, and bio plankton. I mix them all together in a container of water from my tank, and just dump it back in while my skimmer is shut off for about a half hour.
