My plan for improved water movement... any advice?

Corriander,
Is there a device that can adjust electrical voltage flow (example, ceiling fan, dimming switches, etc) which the maxi jet can plug into to without stopping the pump all together?

Good question! I have not tried this . . .

I have an extra MJ1200 running around and a rheostat I use for my micro-lathe. Maybe I will give it a try tonight. It certainly opens up some possibilities! My major concern would be in reduced life since the MJ was not designed for this kind of variable operation.

If this DOES work, a controller that plugs into a computer could be used to create complex patterns without ever stopping the propeller. Perhaps even a programmable lighting controller (the type used in clubs) could be used to eliminate the DIY effort involved. Hmmm . . .

The hydro flows are neet in a small tank, but it takes nothing for them to stop working. The smallest little snail will do it.
From what I have heard the SCWDs will not last long on a bigger pump. OceanMotions Squirt are simple and reliable.
Considering the price of the mods, it seams like the Sieos make more sense then moded MJs. Unless the MJs are putting out way more flow or you already have some.

The MJ Mods are around $40 (20 for the MJ, and 21 for the MOD Kit), and take about 20 minutes to assemble, and boast a 2000gph max flow rate with a really wide stream, much like the tunze pumps. Im not sure how the SEIO's will compare. But... the Super Squirt is an interesting idea. Would work well for a closed loop.

just buy 1 deluxe kit and another shroud and prop and you should be able to mod 2 maxijets.

as for adjusting the voltage flow, i would not suggest this. these are cheap powerhead and are not made for this purpose. i would not risk getting shocked or the pump malfunctioning.

antjefferson I think I am on to something with regards to adjusting flow..Check out this link...

I doubt I would go that route. Just seems too risky. I think I will do 2 of the mods, and then perhaps add 2 SEIO pumps on a wave maker timer or, if I really get ambitious, a wave maker. I will see as I go. I will start with the two mods for now.

I am going to give a try. The wattage on the maxis are low. I dont think it would be a problem. It would be nice to have the ability to adjust the flow. Adjusting by hand will work for now. I just can't justifying paying 800.00+ dollars on a Tunze setup w/multi contl when I can spend under 100.00 and get the same features..
