So since I have started my nano tank about 4 or 5 months ago-iv had nothing but success. but tonight i came home and my little clown fish had disappeared-he hasn't been looking good for a few days and i guess his days were numbered.

I feel like such a bad fish keeper :(-its pretty frustrating.

just thought i would share.

Brannon said to tell you that he knows how you feel. Because some his stuff is dying too. He had 2 cucs die and nuke his tank and a mantis kill an anemone. Luckily, his blenny is still doing great! Sorry about your clown, that sucks bad!

First, cowboys...wow, I had never heard of a mantis attacking an anem...that is crazy(I'm definitely not discounting it, it's just the first time I've ever heard that).

Pixie, I'm so sorry for your loss. It really sucks that animals can't tell us when they need help. Trust me, in this hobby, we all lose fish and sometimes even lose hope. Don't let the latter happen to you...

Just to be sure.. the little guy didnt go into the overflow of the nano did he? I lost some yellow watchmans back there only to find 2 happy and alive 3 weeks later .. they've since paired up and live with my pistol shrimp...

and yeah that is crazy with the mantis and anemone. I actually have a huge aggresive pistol shrimp that will eat anything without a shell (shrimps, pom pom crab was missing some legs so we moved him...) guys a tough tenant!

I saw him do it the day I discovered him in the tank. He crawled out of his hole, went over to the rock anemone, started slashing at it, and went back to his hole. The nem died the next day. :(

That is just insane...I've never heard of that before...maybe there was a shrimp or crab near it he was trying to get at?? I don't see any benefit for the mantis by killing the anem...they don't eat them. Then again, many animals do things that I would consider abnormal. Maybe the mantis had a problem with one out in the ocean and held a grudge ever since then:)...

Again, not discounting your statements...you've obviously seen it happen, and I never doubted that your mantis did that. That is just a really odd behavior for manti(or mantises?? or maybe just mantis shrimps...I'll leave it as stromapods). Sorry bout your nem...did it affect the H2O at all?

Yeah it was pretty nuts. There wasnt anything near it, and that was what puzzled me. There was no reason at all for the mantis to just downright attack the poor nem and start slashing it to shreds! Maybe the anemone just looked at him wrong and it peeved him. :p It was in the hubby's tank, and the tank had suffered the death of two cucumbers, so that didnt help the water after the nem died too. There are 2 other anemones in the tank that are doing wonderful, and he moved 2 others into our 20g hospital tank. Ive been running the skimmer for him nonstop, running carbon, and doing water changes, so the tank is finally getting back to normal.

Face it. The deceased anemone had the cucumbers taken out. The other anemones, fearing that they might be next, put out a contract on him. The shrimp did the deed, but it was witnessed by the clown-fish. The clown-fish is fine living in a witness protection tank. The shrimp was left in your tank after rolling over on the anemones. The feds will be by for the remaining anemones any day...
Now, back to CSI...
