My Prizm Skimmer

I currently have a 55gal Tank with 1 fish; 35lbs live rock, 4" DSB, and a few Polyps and mushrooms. I was currently wondering about my Prizm Skimmer. Is this adequate for a tank of this size? Should I look to invest in a better Skimmer? Is there something I can do to make it run better? From reading all of these threads, I was dupe by the guy whom sold me the setup. I’ve already invested a lot in this tank and really can’t explain the expense of needing another one, but will if this skimmer isn’t doing its good. Any Idea’s?

hello laos, i went thru same experience you have right now but with a seaclone 100, the guy that sold it to me said that it was a good skimmer, since i have a 46 gal i believed him and got it, about a week later i did some research and mostly everyone out there said that it was a piece of crap and that it did not work unless i modded it, i got a hold of instructions and did not understand any of them, so there i am stuck with a worthless skimmer, what to do, what to do, i said just install it try to calibrate it and see how it does, at first nothing, no bubbles no skimmate nothing, well 3 months later and more fishes i started getting a bigger bio load and all of the sudden it started working, i get good skimmate out of water and it seems to be working, so the moral is, dont knock it till you try it, just install it, try to adjust it, and let it do its magic, then in the future when you get a BIGGER tank, get a better skimmer, good luck my friend

I had one with my first used tank. The think was new in the box with the sticker still on it. They paid a bloody fortune for a piece of junk in my opinion. I'd get a new skimmer if I were you.

I have a prizm as well to, got it used for $20. Works just fine on my 10 gallon and pulls nasty brown gunk out. First skimmer so I can not really comment to much, other than I heard there are much better skimmers out there. I did not want to pay a fortune and the price was right for me. I suggest you use it now if it is doing the trick for you and keep an eye out for deals in the future. As long as it is pulling waste out of the water, than you should be good.

I have a Prizm on my 38G tank and I think it does a fine job. I empty it each week and its always about half way full of funky slime water. The bubbles going back into the tank went away after a couple of days. I very rarely adjust the valve b/c I can visually see where the bubbles 'break' and properly skim. I had a Seaclone prior to this and the Prizm is vastly superior IMO. I hear the AquaC Remora is even better but it costs more so I stuck w/ this and have been pleased thus far.

I have one on a 20 gallon with low bioload. I got it used cheap and i think it does a descent job. It definately will not be sufficient on larger tanks.

i have one on my 30...it just takes a while to dial in but once it does it does a decent job

I have a Prism Deluxe on my 36 Gal tank and it does a decent job . I used red slime remover once and that will create micro bubbles as well if you use Cyclopeez food . Now when I feed cyclopeez I just unplug the skimmer while the food is being eaten in the tank

for the price of a prizm you could probably spend a little more and get a turbo floter or at least a aqua remora. I learned the hard way what a peice of crap skimmer does....nothing, Unless your willing to mod it. I would say try and get something a little better than a prizm and just do some research there is a ton of info on skimmers on this site.

unless you buy it for cheap like we did...i got mine half off brand spankin new...i dont think you can beat that

I like mine. I had a really hard time getting it set right, though. It was either filling up in a couple hours or hardly at all.
