My Project ★ GENESIS ★ 110G (Miracle) SPS Dream Tank - (II) Build Thread

My Lunate wrasse just died the other day too Wally. His face looked funny like he was startled at night and hit the glass or something.. He didn't eat and was hiding for a few days then 4th day gone. Was so quick.

Really Sorry to Hear. Was he special? Been around forever?

And I just checked on the New 5 Anthias. All Alive so far.

With Fish you can always find a replacement (not that you want them to die). Losing a Large SPS Colony that you've grown from a Frag for years is way worse.

Yeah he was a stellar fish to me. I also got a crazy good deal on him, he is a fish I could never afford. If for some crazy reason I could only keep one fish, it would have been this guy.

Photobucket is 100% dead, so not my picture, but this is a Lunate (crescent tail) wrasse.

Stunning Fish. Unfortunate you lost him.

FIRST *NEW TANK SETUP * (Lighting PAR TEST)

I borrowed an Apogee Quatum Meter to do The First Test Ever on my Tank & Lighting Systems.

This is with my Fixture at 11" above Water Line, and all 6x 54W T5's at 100%.

Not bad for a Variety of SPS.

Very Even Lighting from FRONT to BACK, and LEFT across to RIGHT at AT same Depth.

For the Rock Areas I'm basically 250-350 almost anywhere I can place Frags.

If I need more PARS I can always lower he Fixture.

THIS IS A past Reading from my OLD 65 Gallon TANK (an Previous 250Wx2 MH Lights and PAIR OF T5's)

Looks good. Vivid Aquariums runs less PAR on their 800g show tank than that, so you should be fine (their tank is almost 100% SPS)

A Better Day Today (for Anthias & DT Fish)

No Fish Died Today

And I love the Carberryi Anthias.

There was a moment where All 5 Lined up line Pencils in a Package. Pretty Cool. (I've been trying to get a photo of that all fish lineup, but no luck)

I guess I learned a lesson about NOT SKIMPING on Acclimatization.

More Good News (Black Capped Basslet in DT) Comes Out of Hiding.

ALL Anthias still all alive and same for the Black Capped Basslet.

27520049087_982f19ecba_z.jpg

Today I'll be Tuning the Water Parameters (Setup the Aurdino Doser) to prepare for Return of SPS Corals.

First test will be a small PACMAN SPS Frag donated by the generosity and daring Tunurepro.

Update on Carberryi Anthais: (1 Anthias dies QT#2 from the New FIVESOME (A 2nd One is acting Withdrawn, Pair Continues to Survive in QT#1)

I guess this is the way with Anthias. (Some make it, some don't)

If I'm left with 5 I'd be Happy (since 1 will change to Male, and 4 would stay Female).

What SCARES me...is I have to eventually do one more Transfer to DT (so I may loose more again).

A Miracle Just Happened (First time in Over 20 Years) Anthias Come back from the Near DEAD

I didn't want to mention anything prematurely, and I'm still not out of the Woods Yet.

Never in my whole reefing years, has a fish that has gotten GRAVELY ill survived.

When the first Anthias died, a 2nd one was looking really weak.

I took out the Dead one and was going to put the dying one out of it's misery, but it wiggled away from my Tongs.

I expected it dead last night, but I peek into QT#2, to my Greatest Surprise there were 4 Cute Anthias looking at me to be fed.

So I waited till this morning to check again. All 4 Anthias are doing good.

Fish are Settling into Tank (All Fish Out & Really Peaceful Swimming)

We'll all that Territory aggression is over.

Strange how the Tank has Transitioned to Very Peaceful.

All Fish are Out and about. (Every Fish is in this Photo)

Cleaner Shrimp came out of Cave, and Mandarin Goby is very active since I added Live Tiger Copepods.

Even the BLACK Capped Basslet is Regularly out.

I miss the Tomini Tang (his Colors and Personality)

Went to get Dirty/Compost for Tomato Garden (Came Home with a 4000 Watt Generator)

I do have UPS Battery Backup System enough for keeping my Tanks Barely Going for 8 hours.

For years I've wanted a Generator since with Global Warming we've had Ice Storms, Blackouts, and my Brother in Law Lost his tank (week without power during the BIG Ice Storm).

This 4000W Champion was on Clearanc SALE at the Canadian Tire Hardware store. Plus I had collected just over $200 in points for something special.

28549614138_c440fbd8e2_b.jpg

So it cost me $129 out of pocket, which is something I thought I'd have to wait a couple more years to get on POINTS.

Nice insurance to have, Not only with my 90 Gallon Establish TANK but also with New Tank (SPS Only) on the Horizon.

Will be hooking up to Run Furnace During Winter, (Some Basic Tank Stuff) and Enough spare capacity to Keep a few more household items going.

Yeah fish need to establish hierarchy for a bit in a new tank. The poor little black cap probably decided he wasn't gonna be the dominant fish so he just hid until the fighting was over. He looks like the smallest fish, so that makes sense.

I bought the same generator years ago(champion 4k Watts), on clearance from TSC(tractor supply store). Think I payed like 99$ for it. Obviously mine is quite a few years old and looks completely different, but I can fully run my tank, pellet stove, fridge, chest freezer, TV and satellite, and on demand hot water before it starts to bog down.

Great little genny that has never failed on me on the 10 years I've owned it. And trust me, up here in northern NY it gets used nearly weekly in the winter.

Best thing I did for the genny was when we remodeled and we had to rewire the entire house, wire everything I want to run on the genny on one side of the panel box(like I said we loose power quite often and wanted a genny but at the time could not afford an auto backup genny) . I simply flip the main breaker, go out start the genny, plug it in, and back feed the panel box. No messy extension cables running every where.

Great looking tank, Wally!
You slapped that together practically overnight.
Good job!

Hey Homer,

Really appreciate your feedback.

I really have been on the edge on if I should keep this gen or consider another. I can still return it even though it's was on Clearance sale.

It's be great to get one of those dual Fuel types, that allow you to hook up to bbq propane line (so have endless fuel, and not have to have fresh gas in storage). BUT for $120 bucks it's a no brainer. Forking out another $500+ is something I'd just never do for something that I may never use.

Going for a less expensive smaller 2000W would be barely enough to run the tanks. So it's a big Bonus to be able to run the Furnace Fan (make it's less complicated to heat HOUSE and TANKS together). I already ran Dual Power for my tank with my Battery UPS in place. JUST NEED a extra Line to get outside (Have room under deck to keep the Generator and run it there too)

I do like that it has (COLD START), which I assume means you are out there in the COLD cursing that it won't start.

Friend says it's LOUD, but if we have an extensive outage, who cares. I'm sure the neighbors will be envious hearing it run, while our lights and house heat is running (while they are in Cold and Darknesss).

I was going to use those $ points to get the kids a bike or something, but using them for GEN just make it Sweet with the Clearance sale.

THanks Matt. 6 Months to setup wasn't overnight, but I guess you mean from Putting in Rocks, and a few fish. (Last 2 weeks or so)

Anyway, I'm tuning up my water, and HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU.

With Larger Tank, I assume I need more Bio-Load for decent Colored SPS.
That is the 2nd reason I want to establish more fish (above the pretty look).

My N is just under 25, and my P is around 0.15 (that is after 3 months of running and NO WATER CHANGES).
So after tonights 30% water change things will drop. (Roughly N=15 and P=.01 by dilution which will be more close to GOOD for SPS)
I assume things will get better with Regular Water Changes, and Tank Stabilizing with Nitrate reducing Bacteria and the MATRIX I just added a week ago)

I added GFO last night and will RUN it for a bit, but STOP when SPS go in.

My Algae scrubber is active and producing, so it will help with N & P (together)

But the Question
is HOW MUCH BIO-LOAD do I need. I have 6 more SMall Anthias Going in, so that should be close.

MOre specifically the question is Nitrates. Is my Nitrate level (Steady State which is IMPORT vs EXPORT) a true level of Nutrients (Ie direct co-relation)?

Or is it something else that I need to go after (more the Fish Poo=Fertilizer). What I mean is Nitrates can go up by overfeeding (no poo, but un-processed waste).

Power Generator is a Keeper (Working on Install) Have Parts, and Great Location

I was flip-flopping on if I should keep the Generator since Friend Said they are noisy. Also that there are Better ones....For more Money, or similar price but less power.

This was a great price and Noise won't be an issue during POWER FAILURE (rare). Pretty sure the Neighbours will hear it running and hope their lights and fridge were running too. (Fish tank too if they have one).

I convinced myself after a quick review on how I could set up my BACKUP Emergency Power. (and A confidence Boost from Homer...Thanks)

ONE THING you never do is Procrastinate on a EMERGENCY SYSTEM since the Day The Power goes out, it may be COLD, there won't be LIGHTS, and No Time to Waste.

So here is how it will be done:

40628759170_6afcdba89d_b.jpg

-> Found my OLD Power Bar (30 AMPType with 5 Standard outlets for Extension Cords) Scrap acquired from Surplus.
-> I have a Basement Window Few Feet from my Sump Room
-> Window is under the Deck but close to the Edge (Just pop it open and run the POWER BAR CORD to the Generator)
-> Two extra Outlets on Generator for Standard Extension Cord, to First Floor Deck Kitchen Sliding Door. (Kitchen Tank, Fridge, etc)
-> Wasteland next to Deck is perfect Location for Generator (Will make a Platform and Cover)

All will be done by weekend. I have Scrap wood from Renovation....for Platform and Deck. Have a Large Gasoline container for a Outboard Fishing Motor.

Then I sit and wait for the Day to come......
(hopefully never needed....it's weird when you have something you don't want to use) (But dumb if you have it and can't use)

I like your number- n25,p.15. Pretty close to mine..
I'm sure after the gfo and the wc, they may change a bit but they'll probably bounce back a bit as well..
The fact that your fuge is growing, you're adding more fish and you have new media that is not completely colonized makes me think that you are covered for nutrient cycling.. I assume your skimmer can be tweaked as well. You have nutrients going in and out.
And since your rock is all cured and fully functional with bacteria, I believe you have a fairly stable system as is.
After you do a few wcs to freshen up the mineral levels, I'd remove the gfo and see where nutrients settle...
Persona, I see nothing wrong with trying some corals in the next week or so..
after your anthias go in, I'd give it some time before you add more fish.
Cuc, though.. how is the cuc? You'll need a good crew to keep algae in check.. they also do some good recycling of algae into nutrients..and keep the place clean at the same time.
