I woke up this morning and I saw my puffer stocked in my maxijet 1200. I immidiately turned off the pump and hte puffer were able to escape. The thing is his stomach was the one stucked in the intake and it looks like it was blown. He was probably stocked all night. Right now, it is just staying in one place to another and his stomach seems to be getting back to normal but you can see that its really wounded. I dont know if I can help him. Will he die or get cured? Should I get rid of him now before he poisons my tank. I have many corals in this tank too that is why I am more worried. I hope I can save the puffer though. Here is a pic.

That has never happened to me because I put sponges on all my powerhead intakes, which is what you should do. But I have a buddy who didn't listen to me and 3 of his puffers got sucked in on different occasions.......none survived.

I will put a sponge on all my poewr heads from now on. The puffer is still surprisingly alive. His stomack is looking better but still sore. I hope it survives. Thanks. Any medication would you guys recommend

While sponges may prevent injury from the powerhead .....some predatory fish especially puffers have been known to chew on them. If ingested, they have caused intestinal blockage and death.

Placing pumps, heaters, etc in sumps are the best. If this is not an option, try separating/partitioning off the powerhead/equipment with a plastic lighting screen.

there really isnt any particular medication to treat that other than feeding the uffer and keeping the water quality as pristine as possible. if you can putting the powerheads behind rocks in such a way that no fish can get to them is a good idea. depending on the type of powerhead sponge, most have a plastic insert in the sponge that actually attatches to the PH, pull the sponge off and use that. it will diffuse the suction force over alot of holes and stop the getting stuck.

if you cant though PQ is right, the most you can remove the better. maybe try a closed loop for circulation since there is only one intake to guard .
