Help!

My PFF has flatworms on its body and I just researched and found that hyposalinity doesn't cure it.

It's in my QT, so I will consider chemical options, but natural options are prefered. What can I do?

flatworms aren't known for ending up on fish. are you sure you don't have flukes?

but either way, a freshwater dip will kill flatworms or flukes. you may need to redip for flukes more than once though.

I agree, a praziquantel treatment is your best bet. Well-entrenched fluke infestations cannot be cured by FW dips alone - unless you move the fish to a non-infected tank after each dip.

praziquantel is toxic to some fish ime monitor the fish closely and if the fish reacts in a sligish/gasping for air way you will need to do a 75% water change the med is affective if properly administered and be sure to follow the directions on the bottle so be prepared with extra water in case you need to do a water change also i would recommend doing a freshwater dip before and during the treatment this will help ease the fish as well good luck

dones20,

I've never seen ANY toxicity using praziquantel in fishes at 0.20 ppm, and I've performed hundreds of treatments on thousands of fish. The gasping you are seeing is due to the solvent used to get praziquantel to disperse in the water. Prazi is barely soluble in water, so the liquid preparations need to have some other solvent in them. Some public aquariums have tried using ethanol, but this can cause low dissolved oxygen levels, with gasping.
I use praziquantel dispersed into the water through a fine nylon mesh (o.k, I admit it, I use pantyhose for this!).

you are indeed correct jhemdal but i have read of some horror stories about it being used in some tanks and the fish not being able to tolerate it i for one have never had a problem but i was simply warning the user of possible nicks down the road.... all else aside when using any meds to treat disease in our preciouse marine fish we should always be prepared to deal with the worst if worst was to come. thats why i mentioned to have some extra water handy.
