My Purple Hornet: Could be a gonner

Gone Postal
I was getting all excited as my PH polyp I picked up last month started to make a fresh new bud from its base but then something happened.

It has been closed up for at least the past 5-6 days. About 3 days ago I went ahead and dipped it in Revive in case something was on it and aggrevating it but it still has not reopened.

I've had a few other zoas do this as well and I've lost some and some have come back.

I just hope to heck that this one pulls through. It's one heck of an expensive loss if it doesn't make it.

Chuck, try dosing Vitamin C, their is a thread in the Zoanthid section of RC about Vitamin C dosing Zoanthids.

Wow, hope it pulls thru for you. Did you try moving it to lower light? I've had luck with miving closed up zoas to more shaded areas and have them open back up. Going thru this process with some kedd reds.

G'luck.

Wow that sucks. I hope it pulls through chuck I lost a colony of my Hawaiian ding dangs the same way. If the revive doesn't work try putting it in a cooler tankif possible

itll pull thru! (gotta think positive :p ) but dam that sux! i kno someone who lost ther 5 polyp colony... im curious if the vitamin c will work

That's horrible :( I've lost a couple of corals but never any zoas. Hope all goes well. Btw how much do those go for these days?

I paid $162.50 for the polyp (plus shipping). I've seen them go over $200 in auctions.

I actually was doing Vit C for awhile - just a maintenance dose but I was doing it differently than just adding it everyday.

I multiplied out the amount I wanted for 4 days (how long my ATO reservoir will last) and just added it to the make up water. This way I only had to mess with the Vit C every 4 days. Don't know if this will effect it or not.

Guess I can bump it up some and see what happens. Can't hurt at this point. I'll also move the polyp down a bit.

I don't think so. Only fish in there is a yellow tang and a pair of maroon clowns that host in my green sinularia. I don't even think there are any hermits left in that tank.

hey chuck zoas hate revive. they usually dont do well in revive dips. i would dip in furan or iodine they are generally the best for zoas. if an extreme case i do a iodine injection straight into the zoa i have saved many zoas like this before. good luck.

Oh great. At least I didn't keep it dipped too long. Only about 5-10 min max.

I came home tonight from work and it was half open after being closed for about a week.

I think it might make it after all.
